Yep, same here. I can't seem to hear to much good stuff about it. Also, Shootermike estimated that the VAtrim (or VA Atrim) swords have about 80% the cutting ability of their $500 ATrim counterparts! Talk about a good deal... Just my $0.02. -Slayer EDIT: oh, and I'm pretty sure that Hanwei addressed the sharpness isue on tinker's swords. I'm not positive, but I remember hearing something to that effect... Maybe you could PM him about it?

Well he was quite happy with the edge of the single hander...but the edge for the fullered bastard sword was less then desired...but better then what it was.

Well hears the question, if we get extra sharp per se, does that mean less lifespan on the sword comparatively to the same blade and same use at just sharp

The extra sharp option on My Castile sword dosn't look to make the blkade any weaker... I'd still be fine cutting anything from bottles to bamboo with it without worry.

hey, Ancalagon, if you can scratch together the money for a real Atrim I'd say go for it. I just got one and man I can't see ever going back. not even to the VA practical atrim, which is a great sword for the money but holy cow the full ATrim is superb! forget the scabard the sword I say. the ATrim I have could sell for 800 to 1000 and not dissapoint in my opinion.

Now, here's the thing though your sword will die from other reasons WAY before that becomes an issue.

It's not so much the concept of having the money, but being able to justify spending it... if I only had one expensive hobby, you bet I would be getting a "real" Atrim... but unfortunately, other things want my money too!

Ahh, while I agree Albions and Atrims rock, there are some real gems among the under $300 crowd, sometimes quite a ways under. I have a couple Atrims and an Albion and sure I want more of those types. However I don't see myself turning my back on the more pocket book friendly. There's quite a few more of those I have a craving for has well. Some can be aquired decently sharp too.

Ancalagon, Ric,
I ca completely see your points of view in this matter, it's just right now, from where I am it's the right way for me to go. I can't have hords of swords hanging around the house so each sword I have has to serve a purpose in and of itself so I want to know I'm getting the best possible. also the way I see it, I'd rather pay 450-550 for one really good sword than than 200 for three different OK or even pretty good swords. in fact, I'd rather have one Atrim like the one I have than two of the VA Practical arming swords or their like.

Tom, to each their own for sure, brother. Myself, I'm focusing on getting to know the blades I already have better for a while.
