My KC Gladii has a very visible temper line, don't like to call it a hamon since it not japanese. Wonder what he Latin word would be for it.

If the Empire survived to modern times , their Gladii would look like that.

Trajan, I just saw your gladius...did you make that? I'm not crazy about the damascus blade but I am LOVING the hilt/handle. Exquisite. Love the scabbard too.
iron, you're probably right.

Hi Ebon,
Thanks for the appreciation.
The blade was made by Norman Schenk and the fittings were carved by William Lloyd.
Another one of their collaborations won Best Sword of Show at the Atlanta Blade show in 2004---the same year they made this one.
Hi Ric,
as to a review, its a $4000 sword--I'm afraid to cut with it. The blade is a bit point heavy as I think the bone grip and pommel aren't heavy enough to counterbalance the blade. An intact period gladius I handled in Naples had a solid silver handle and pommel and the balance was much better.
I've never handled a replica or modern functional piece to compare feel to--though I'm tempted to get some as your original pic shows some cool types.
Thanks matt

it is always annoying when someone makes a beautiful sword that doesn't feel the way the historical model should.
Trajan: So this is steel created by two finger knife if I miss my guess. Ah I thought that work looked familiar. Out of curiousity what do you think about the steel of the blade itself? I have considered getting a blade made by these guys but haven't yet.

I do believe Norm owns 2 fingers.
Steel iteself sems fine--I do prefer a more subtle pattern myself but I fell in love with the fittings and overall art aspect of the sword and had to have it. Blade is also strongly etched to the point you can feel the pattern.
