Does that make you a decurion? And does a decurion lead nine men (making ten in total) or ten men (making eleven total)? And if a decurion leads ten men, does the officer carry the "puggio", or does the newest and thus most expendable recruit carry the puggio?

I love gladii! Could you label them-(brand, type)? I know most of them but a couple of them I'm not sure about.

LOL, yeah the goverment sent em to me. Andrew, they are from top to bottom; Windlass Gladiator mainz type blade , Stage steel gladius and Gen2 Mainz. Sean, uhh, no. ;D From your left to right; Windlass Mainz, Windlass Pugio, the blade on the third one I got from a Pompeii gladius I bought off ebay (Sussen was the seller, I think) the fittings came from a Stongblade gladius, the fourth one is another ebay Mainz gladius from Sussen, next is the Kris Cutlery gladius pompeii type, Rittersteel Pompeii, Gen2 Pompeii and a Deepeeka Mainz. Thanks to all. Now lets see yours.

I'd post a picture of mine, but they don't make a resolution camera large enough to capture the whole image yet...
Oh, you're talking about gladii...my bad ;D
I sold mine gladii when I got on the whole Schola two-handed kick last year. I had the Windlass Maintz, Windlass Pompeii, and Valiant. I handled the Gen II Maintz at Dragon*Con 2008, which I absolutely loved (for its functionality, not authenticity) - perhaps this year I will get into one of those at some point when get this damn Mercenary paid off...

and Gen2 Mainz. Sean, uhh, no. ;D Damnit!!! I only ask because, ironicly, that one was ALMOST mine. I recall when you bought it, because I was thinking about picking it up... put your mouse finger was quicker then mine.

Thanks Rick Well I have the newer version of the Gen2 pompeii but I think everybody knows what they look like. I actually like the older version more I like the ball pummel and the scabbard looks much more historically accurate. You may remember, I made a thread about how the metal plate on top of the guard had come loose. I still haven't been able to fix that because the the crack between the plate and the guard just seems too skinny to fit glue into. It seems like I can remember you saying back then that you had the same problem with your Gen2 maintz. Have you had that problem with any of your other fine gladii? If so, have you found a solution? Or do you just live with it? Hope I'm not hijacking your thread

I'd post a picture of mine, but they don't make a resolution camera large enough to capture the whole image yet. LOL. ;D What did you think of the Valiant? Yeah, Sean, my woman says I can be a bit quick on the draw at times. Larry, mine is a different model than the one you pictured, here is a review. Scabbard is indeed cutout on the back side. Andrew, I recall you posting about your Mainz now, thanks for jogging my old memory. Yeah, my Gen2 Mainz has the same problem tho it's so slight I don't really notice it. Also same problem with the Winlass Mainz, more noticeable on that one. Didn't arrive that way and I gave it hard use. The one on the KC is very very slightly loose but only got that way after I chopped my hard hat in half. I suspect it may be a problem inherent to that kind of construction. I have found no solution tho I haven't really spent much time looking for one, I hardly notice it anymore. The Gen 2 Pompeii is as tight as ever and I agree I like the old style better. That isn't the scabbard that came with it. (I scavaged it off the Stongblade model). The one that came with it was a piece of crap leather jobbie. No hijack here, we're talking about gladii, no?

Yeah, Sean, my woman says I can be a bit quick on the draw at times. Ooo... I'm sorry to hear that. There are techniques you can use for more 'staying power'. ;D
