Thanks, Wambo. My overall favorite is the KC Gladius, fifth hanging one from the viewers left. It isn't the best cutting of the bunch but l just think it's beautiful. Aw, heck, here's a review.

Thanks! I saw the original review, but the updated one is even better! A beautiful blade and it certainly cuts well! What one of the group could even cut better than that?
Also, in the review, you mentioned that the Kris was second favorite originally-What was the first fav?
Edit: Had I read the comments to the review the first time I would have gotten the answer I asked! (Gen2 Pompeii) Sorry!

Hmm, I don't know what PC means, Caulkingiron. Wambo, the Windlass Gladiator cuts real good once you get edge on it. The Gen2 Mainz also cuts very well and comes sharp. Only thing about the Gen2's are the finish can be a bit iffy and it's got that round grip which can cause problems with edge alignment.

PC= period correct . Which ones look like originals , without anacronistic additions.

PC= period correct . Which ones look like originals , without anacronistic additions. Aha, I see. Not really my area, historical accuracy. I'd defer to these guys, www.larp.com/legioxx/gladius.htmlPersonally, I don't think there are a lot of PC gladii around, without some modification. However my best guess would be this one.

Thank you. The G2 is beautifull . But It is almost double the weight of the historic ones . It's scabbard is awfull . The Windlass Maintz is interesting , but I dont like the blade ricasso . If only Kris made a Maintz . I will keep looking .

I like the Gen2 hilt , the VA blade and the Windlass scabbard . Is there a cheap SLO with a scabbard that would fit the VA Maintz?

Now this looks interstinghttps://ssl.perfora.net/finditarmory.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=154a2e64f24545d/shopdata/index.shopscript . I can't tell which one you're referencing, Iron. I'm familiar with that site tho, they sell a lot of deepeeka. Yeah, KC makes a fine gladius among other things, they just don't have a big enough selection. As to a scabbard for the VA mainz, probably somewhere. Yo, Paladin, I do like the shorties, thanks. Glad you clarified on the bastard, thought you might be coming for me.

The blade is the most important . I decided to go for the Valiant Armoury Praetorian . Now I wait for the truck to bring my first real sword .

I went round and round on this a few years ago while I was doing Roman re-enactments. Albion is the only manufacturer making a historically-accurate gladius today - which is insane because many of the other selections out there only require a little tweaking here and there to make them period authentic. I used a modified Windlass Pompeii myself, with redone camel bone handle and a modified Deepeeka scabbard. However, here is an example of a cheap potmetal gladius that a guy with a little determination turned into a fairly period-accurate and very visually interesting piece. www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=16280&highlight=gladius

Hi Odingaard I have been looking for a scabbard that looks , right with 4 rings . The Denix brass Roman best choice so far . www.medievalcollectibles.com/c-294-denix-swords.aspx The price for just the scabbard is higher than I want to pay . Maybe I will find something at a yard sale . I t is frustating with all the "historic" gear out there being sold , the manufacturers seldom do any research into how it should look .

Suprisingly, Deepeeka makes the most-historically accurate off the shelf scabbards out there. The Denix one has a plastic wrap cover on it, which you could redo. The fittings look, ok - but they are cast and too thick for form. You might want to see if someone has a Deepeeka one around - or buy a cheap Deepeeka, sell the sword and keep the scabbard.
I am holding out for the new VA gladius that is coming out later this year (Actium?) for my next Roman period investment. For the price, its a really nice looking one!

I am waiting for the Big Brown Truck to bring my VA . Another Gladius replica from VA sounds SWEET . I like your work on your gladius . THUMBS UP One product that could be sold is a "build your own " sword kit , like those muzzle loading rifle kits . Picture a set of components with a quality blade in the proper shape and the buyer can finish it to his liking .

That's an interesting blade, Jim. Very utilitarian, right up my alley. I'm going to have to spend some time on that site.
