Moving to Perth hey slayer, well its about florida weather there, although in brisbane where I am a bit closer to florida, wretched humidity here ........ Customs blades, my income is steady but not grand, so I cant warrant customs to well, it sounds weird but sometimes I like the uniform quality of some of the mid range production swords ....... I will be keen to see how VA's Signatures go. I'm keen to try and get a CAS/Tinker Early Medieval and get a blunt blade replacement, take up lessons, then a CAS/Tinker Longsword and do the same, I like to try and pair practical knowelege with ownership as I feel (personally) my investment pays off four fold: Viewing, Cutting, Practical/Rote/Martial, Collecting etc ....... sort of a get the most bang for my buck ........ seems the case with most of my collection so far. Would love an Albion some day, I'm not hung up if its CNC milled or stock removed by specially bred weazels if a sword looks and IS the goods like Albions (which I dont think many people gripe about) then its got my attention. But thats what I like and at the end of the day its all that matters. ...................................... that and I'm cool ............... *cough* ................. Then again for semprinis and giggles I would purchase 500 Deepeeka's and drop them outta a plane just to see how many land on the ground point in CAUSE THEIR ALL SO POINT HEAVY!!!!

Oh, sweet! That gives me hope about the future of my collection, as I'm planning to move to Perth the week I turn 18, lol. Maybe you should change your name to StalkerofBrendan.

Whoa...that is a heavy hilt mate...what did you do, like get your arm ripped out of it's socket? As for the Brendan thing, ever since I was old enough to watch Steve Irwin on the Crocodile Hunter (may he rest in peice... ), I've wanted to live in Australia. So, seeing as: A. Perth has 4 good colleges nearby, if I am correct, B. The only Australians I know very well are Paul and Bren, C. Perth is near the beach, which is cool (even if there are 1500 things that could kill you before you even get to the water, lol), D. Perth's temperature is about what I am used to, and E. I'd save shipping on all the FableBlades I buy! I thought Perth seemed like the place to be. See what I mean? I'd say I have a few good reasons I forgot to list, but, hey? That's a good start . -Slayer

Only 1500? Let's see. 8 of the top ten deadliest snakes in the world one of them being the deadliest, the deadliest animal in the world which is an ocean dweller. 8 of the top 10 dealiest spiders in the world. The deadliest bird. Mako sharks that grow to several metres in length um box jellyfish, stone fish, sea snakes oh and the blue ringed octopus. Are we having fun hijacking my thread yet?

Yeah, it's pretty fun... I plan on staying OUT of the water, but it's still cool for the view.

Aww, you have to spiol our fun ;D? lol, Yeah we are. But you don't see a snake or a spider until it's too late, and no amount of martial arts training can help you fight THEM . See my point? But I'm willing to take the risk, I mean, Brenno and Paul haven't died yet, have they?

Only Makos? We have to worry more about the Hammerheads on the East Coast. I've seen one in the water before and it's a truly heart-stopping sight, even from the safety from a boat. The blue-ringed octopus is a crazy thing, it'll kill you dead before you even know you're dying and it's about the size of a golf ball...
Slayer: Regarding universities in Perth, there is a group of Aussie unis known as the Group Of 8 and the University of Western Australia is one of them. They're known as a solid group of research intensive unis.
I went to the University of Queensland which is also a member of the Go8 and Universitas21. And I'm now studying post-grad through Curtin University of Technology (based in Perth). Curtin have an excellent amount of online-accessible stuff, so much so that I can study post-grad easily from across the country.

Sweet, sounds cool, mate.
As far as the other comments, you've CERTAINLY convinced me to stay out of the water...at least until I get a full-body bullet proof diving suit, lol.

You can get stinger suits which are like a wetsuit but made of much thinner material to stop jellyfish stinging you...
If you won't go in the water because of the sharks, then you don't want to be on the land either, spiders & snakes are very common even in urban areas. Even the cute, innocent-looking platypus is poisonous, seriously, and don't even get me started on the Drop Bear infestation we've got in QLD this summer...

Well, I've never been an ocean guy . On land I have WAY more control, while in water I can't see anything until it's hit me, lol. What's a 'drop bear'?

To throw in my two cents BW, if you've got experience with the sub-300 market, and are asking yourself if it's time to move up, then I'd say the answer is yes. Save up and buy a high-end sword or a full custom. See how you like that market. If it's not your thing, sub-300's will still be around, hey.

Australia's #1 carnivorous predator. Similar to a koala only carnivorous, contankerous and less sleepy. Strictly tree-dwelling, it uses overhanging branches of Eucalyptus trees to drop down on prey, and attacks their face and neck. Attacks are usually fatal due to their razor sharp claws and ambush techniques. If victims do escape they usually succumb to a venom contained in the Bear's saliva before reaching an antivenom. The Bear will then drag the body back to it's tree to devour. I don't know about you, but at least you can gouge out a shark or a crocs eye if he has your leg, but if a drop bear's got you around the head, it's game over.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is reason number thirty-seven why I would never go within a thousand kilometers of Australia.

Hey guys, I have been thinking about something lately and thought I might ask some input. I have not owned many swords but the ones I have owned have been sub $300, I have also used numerous blades from numerous creators as well. So my question is this, I'm not really interested in filling my house up with swords (does that make me a heretic?)... You damned HERETIC! BURN HIM I SAYS!!! ...so I wonder if it is better to save up and go with one or two custom blades or to go with what I can afford now? There are so many fantastic sword makers around (although we did just lose one of my favourites). If I were to go custom I would look at Jim Hrisoulas and or John Lundemo. Blood, I think you are covering the low end and the very high end there. But there is a HUGE middle ground that you seem to be ignoring. There are a lot of very nice production and semi-production swords that fall into the retail price range of $450-950 USD. Consider looking at them too. The good thing about that price range is that they are diverse and popular, and there is a healthy 2nd hand market. So if you get a good one that just doesn't agree with you, you can sell it for not too much loss (or break even if you buy used in the first place) and try a different sword until you find whether there are some that satisfy your desires. That's not something you can really do at either extreme end of the price spectrum.

Unfortunately Shoots I'm looking for something specific that I have ever seen offered anywhere except custom and often unavailable customs. I have quite a bit of experience in handling sub $300 swords and there is always something lacking, put it down to my perfectionistic nature. I have even handled a few albions and whilst they are quite nice there is still often something lacking. My tastes are pretty much short one handers (like kodachi) or hand and a half type blades. I love unique and obscure weapons from a range of cultures, if I could find someone to make me a shotel that would be awesome, it is such a strange but effective weapon. I have some experience with the $1500 custom katana market as well, having handled a number of custom made pieces by an Australian smith who lives near me but unfortunately only does katana.
Your point is a good one, I am still hoping to be able to get an ATrim bastard sabre at some point.

Where is Aus are you? Do you have any info on Australian smiths? I'm about to order a James Raw custom, but if I could find an Aussie smith I liked... Well, it'd be nice to keep it an Aussie affair, you know... Especially after South Africa's performance in the cricket this summer so far
