Does anyone other than Paul have this sword? I'm really wanting one after reading his review and looking at everything about them...
So they are considered "beaters?"

Vas Hail! I have the DSA 10th C. viking, and all I can say is one tough sword, It's like a Timex, takes a beating and keeps on cutting. Ya ya, not quite the same quote! What that means, you can do some serious cutting and not have to worry about doing major damaged to the blade, Buy one, you'll like it....SanMarc.

I have a DSA Knight that belongs to Centurion2000. He left it with me to rework into a cutting sword. I'm not very fond of it, but it is very definitely a "beater" of a sword. It beats water bottles. It beats tatami mats. It beats fence posts. And I'm willing to bet it can beat the heck out of armour. For a short, heavy sword it does pretty decent. As for cutting like a sword?... Um, not very well. Even after having the edges completely reworked into some pretty nice looking appleseed shapes and being made plenty sharp it is a bit of a chore to cut with. Tsafa likes heavier beater swords, and he handled this one when he visited last August. Maybe he can offer up his thoughts on the DSA Knight as well?

DS swords are extra heavy monsters. It's nice having a non-sissy heavy sword. Don't be discouraged, once you get used to the weight it's like swinging a thunder bolt.

lol. Yea, I don't think I'll mind the weight of it. I'm a pretty big guy, so I could probably manage.

I pondered about DSA for sometime. I now have the Black Knight. I bought it last month from the SBG Store and wrote a review on it.
I am pretty impressed with their products overall. I consider them to be of sturdier construction than anything Windlass makes. I posted a review on 'another board' and got flamed because of my high opinion of the DSA products. I did try to defending Eyal and DSA, but the masses were too great and I think I am still shunned by fans of <insert high dollar sword manufacturer here> on said site.
Find another sword brand sub-$300 you can beat on a railroad rail and look as good as the DSA does at the end of the day. They are good swords. A little heavier, but alot sturdier than most others you will find.
Get the Guardian and cleave Mini Coopers with it this holiday season. You will love it.

The shape and profile of the cross section of the blade, gives the blade a better chance of surviving Battle damage, not like the profile that your kitchen knife has, more like a cross between it and a clever....SanMarc.

I did try to defending Eyal and DSA, but the masses were too great and I think I am still shunned by fans of <insert high dollar sword manufacturer here> on said site. Not to bring the other forum's issue into this one...but that isn't really fair of what happened. Most were cool with the idea of a good DSA sword with some inquires into the finer details of it. The issue that came up was along the lines of knocking off a certain model due to certain similarities. I too think most of it can be explained...well other then the very similar placement of the risers...but that is a very minor detail. Anyways, the spin off thread causes Eyal to go kinda ballistic and attack the forum...NOT the individual posting the messages. And in the process he does admit that he DID knock off at least one of his swords no less. This caused a lot of bad blood and I get the feeling he isn't exactly welcomed there anymore. I think even paul wouldn't welcome him anymore if he started attacking the SBG. Not something paul wrote, but the forum instead. Although I really don't think they are holding anything against you odin for buying and liking a DSA. At least I don't see it in any of the threads so far. Oh a more on topic note...I hear that all the time. Well the weight is heavy but I'm a big guy so it's okay. Well if all you want is something to bash things with...then yeah it is. If you want a sword...then no it isn't. And then there is the balance issue. Unless they changed things with the old line up...they are in generally pretty badly balanced. I hear better things from the newer models like the 100 year war sword that dan reviewed (still a wrong name...yes it bugs me still) and the black knight that odin reviewed. Quite frankly...I think there are better options in this price range. The new batch of henry the V from gen 2 is coming in a couple of weeks. The windlass type XIV is even loved by collectors of more expensive pieces. And the DSA black knight would even be better since it seems to at least be balanced decently. Facina...if I wanna swing a thunderbolt, I'll use a mace or war hammer thank you very much. When I swing a sword...I want a sword.

I now own 6 DSA swords. I have seen them improve with each run of swords they make.. They are all very tough and well made.. The Balance has improved as well.. I`ve used all mine with many hard cutting tests, and still do to this day.. With not one failure.. I have bought swords from some of the other sword company`s and have had 2 fail and one from another . I really like my DSA`s they may not be for everybody. But they are right for me and my taste.. I think after you own one, and get to do some cutting. You will enjoy them as well. I`ve had nothing but Good contact with the People at DSA.. They will take your calls and emails and anwser all your questions.. Good luck with some of the other company`s..I can hardly wait to see the new line of swords coming up.!!. Keep up the good work DSA... Jason W

I don't have and thus can not commnt on the DSA Knight Sword. However, I do have a recently purchassed Andriul sword, so I'll offer up my thoughts. The DSA blades are a bit heavier then most other swords. However... they FEEL very sturdy. The cutting I have done with mine so far it feels very, VERY solid. This seems to be supported by Paul, Jason, and others testing here on SBG. A funny note about the 'tough' nature of the DSA blades... if I tap most of my swords I get a solid metal 'ping'... when I tap my DSA sword I get a 'dong' that sounds like a bell. I dunno why... but ONLY my DSA blade makes this sword... none of my other swords do. The sound is so strong, solid... much like the blade itself. It also makes an awesome and unique sword when I cut something with it. A deep metalic sound that I love. I wrote DSA and asked them if they had any extra scabbards around that they could sell me... I bought my Andruil second hand and the scabbard was toast. I got a message back from Eyal less then 12 hours later and he offered to send me a scabbard for the sword at no charge if I just covered the shipping. I have also talked with him about details involving the free dagger promotion and what swords quallify, and Eyal has been amazingly easy to communicate with and and super healpfull. So, I gotta agree with Jason in a lot of ways.... Eyal and Darksword are, if nothing eles, very friendly and direct, very easy to work with. There is a real 'small buissness' feeling you get working with them... like the kind you get with a small town general store owner you have know and shopped with forever. What it comes down to tho, is making sure you know what your getting... and getting what you want. My DSA is a big, heavy, beefy, SOLID weapon. I would not want ALL my swords to be DSA blades... I like varriaty and there are some features in a sword I like that are not strong points of DSA. However, I'm glad I got the sword that I did... and I WILL get more DSA swords... and when I do I will know exactly what I'm getting: one heal of a tough sword from a guy who is very friendly and great to deal with.

Yeah.. That`s the feeling I get when I talk to Eyal or anyone else at DSA.. A small town store feel.. Before I bought my first DSA sword the "Boromir" I bet I sent Eyal 15 emails asking him questions about his swords.. He took the time and respond to everyone of them.I was sold by his friendliness first. To this day anytime I ask a question he responds.. After talking to Eyal in depth..I have come to learn Eyal is a hands on owner. He loves what he does and the items he makes..He takes great pride in his swords and wants to make the best items he can..It seems he is there many hours each week and DSA is really growing because of him and his employees hard work. Even in this slowing economy .While other sword makers are hurting and having to cut costs and have "big sales".. Eyal takes a lot of pride in his swords so when some people "Slam" his swords or run them down without even owning a DSA sword.. I can understand him taking it personal and getting upset.. I would!!! I know DSA swords are not for everyone. But they work well for my tough cutting backyard tests.. ;D I myself have designed 2 major film used swords.. So I can understand ware Eyal is coming from.. if anyone has any questions about DSA ,Eyal or his swords.. Email him or call.. See for yourself.. Hope this helps some.. Thanks for your time..Jason W

Hey Jason, I really like the Guardian you designed, particularly in green. What are the 2 other swords you referred to? Sounds like things got pretty rough on that other forum. I have nothing but respect for Eyal and what he is doing at DSA and the way he treats us as his customers and fellow forumites. Even now I am trying to figure out how to afford paying him some more respect for just a few more swords......and a free dagger! ;D

hello` Utilityslave and Edvvard, I did the basic design concepts for the sword used in the films 'Sleepy Hollow' and "Underworld" have you heard of these films?? ;D I also have some new designs I`m working on as well. It`s a very long story but long story short I worked with a company named Faxtory-X back in the 90`s. I `ve also done other film used weapons as well. I`m proud at how well my sword designs have done.. I just draw them out and refine the design many times over and over until I think I`ve got the best design possible. Edvvard I like the knight swords and the Norman.. DSA will be posting some new swords VERY soon. Keep your eye open I think they will have some new swords you will really like. The Balance on the swords DSA have for sale now have good balance to me..So I don`t think you will be unhappy with what you choose.. I hope I helped some. Jason W

About the deal on the other board: The argument ensued when I posted pics and the review of the Black Knight. Alot of people seemed to like the sword, then opinions drastically changed when someone pointed out that the Darksword was apparently knocking off the Albion Prince.
Now, I had never seen the historic sword, so I thought they were both based on the same antique. I had no clue that the BK and Prince has as similar design as was pointed out. I'll put it like this, I know not to bring anything up concerning DSA on the other board again - eesh. I'd rather have a root canal. I had to justify myself so many times, I could have written a novel from the responses.
In the end, it did not matter, for me personally. I still dig the Black Knight and think its a finely durable beater sword in the sub-$300 range. I don't really think you can go wrong with anyone of their products. If anything, you should try one out and see for yourself.

Yeah Jason, I'm familiar with both movies especially underworld.......one of my favorites......did you do Victor's sword? I also remember seeing various tidbits about Faxtory- X or is it Factory-X? Did you do that work out of Nashville?.......I'm originally from Clarksville. Edvvard, I agree with Jason on the Norman and Knight swords. Also, Eyal just announced that the newest batches of DSA swords have gone to a peened pommel, considered by many to be an improvement to an already good product. There is also a promo right now that if you backorder certain DSA swords you get the choice of one of several free daggers ;D
