"EDIT: Need to ask, for self defense can't you carry pepper spray (more specifically the gel spray, it's easier to use and has less backlash)? I am always a bit wary using a knife for self defense (first rule of the knife fight, you will get cut). Of course pepper spray has less "intimidation factor", until you get hit the first time - and of course there are people who don't react to pepper spray, but I think it as first line of defense plus a knife is better than having only a knife. I carried pepper spray 30 years ago or so. One day while on a trip to the store and walking back to my truck, I felt a nasty burning sensation on my leg. The trigger knob on the pepper spray had turned just right, and the spray went off in my pocket. T'was not pleasant!

Stepfather and I tried a spray out one day in the garden, wind shifted and the mist came for us. Felt like the wasps were upon us, we ran like hell. It still got us bad enough to have buring eyes for a few hours. Wasps in a flask....Or fire ants. I wouldn't have wanted to be hit directly.

@jite Thank you for the information.
Your fathers Blade is an EGW Fighting knife:
Supposed to be a popular private purchase item, but there is some talk of possible issue (?). It came in variations like what your dad had with the saw-back and in various lengths. Not all were marked:
Yes, it's an EGW Knife and marked as such. I don't know what the official designation of EGW is but always thought the GW probably stood f0r Guerrilla Warfare. It's been in my hands since I was 8 years old and I'm 67 now so it's a first issue as he was one of the first called to work.
They gave him a .45 cal Tommy gun, a bottle of Government Issue Bennys (Benzadrine) and this knife, turned him loose and he be back when everybody was dead He brought all that meanness and violence (and Amphetamine habit) home with him and was in Court Ordered Anger Management when he died at the age of 83. My half-kin said he used to chase them around with guns. I told them if he wasn't to shoot you he wouldn't have been chasing you, but you better run.
I inherited his mean bone and this knife. He never conquered his demons, I made peace with mine. The normal way a Father and Son bond is by taking Amphetamines together I know, because that's how my Step-Father and I bonded, too. Korea was some crazy stuff...I remember reading how the Turks would go out at night with a knife stripped down ( in the summer), anyone wearing clothes was the enemy...so much close contact fighting for extended periods on the L.O.C. Sorry to hear about the difficulties and drug use, governments just want to win and don't care about the after effects on soldiers and families. They pretend to care a bit more these days.

The trigger knob on the pepper spray had turned just right, and the spray went off in my pocket. T'was not pleasant! It could have been worse, much worse, depending on the pocket you had it in and the direction it was pointed. | Last week I pulled my Police 700 Billion Volt stun gun flashlight out of my back pocket after being outdoors and having sat down, when I realized I must not have turned it off. It was barely touching my arm from the side when it gave me just enough of a surprise shock that everything I had in the other hand went flying through the air.} My Step-Father squirted me with Mace years ago. Your first instinct is to wipe it off which would only smear it around and water from the faucet doesn't make any difference till it wears off enough that you can stop cussing the person that squirted you. It might not prevent someone who could take a quick look to see where you were from beating the crap out of you, as that's what I would have done if I could have done it at the time. } He said he didn't know it would go that far and was a good 10 feet away from me.

No, it wasn't pepper spray, it was CS gas I think.
Fun fact: Back when I was in army basic training I discovered I have an unusual tolerance for CS. While the folks around me were blind, wheezing, dripping fluids from their faces, and being generally miserable, I had a slight tickle in the back of my throat and mildly dry-feeling eyes. They sent me through the CS exposure hut twice because they thought I just didn't get enough exposure, but I could talk and act normally to the instructors who got to keep their masks on. One instructor seemed personally offended that I had an atypical reaction. To be honest, CS has a fairly pleasant wood-fire-like fragrance to me. It's lame as far as superpowers go, but there you go.

Too many people immune to spray or electricity for me to think them viable. I'm not and I certainly don't want them coming back on me.
I don't carry anything for self-defense, unless you count "carrying my $emprini somewhere else"
Recently I'd been feeling like the knife I've had on my belt the last couple of years was more nuisance than useful, so I wanted to "downgrade" to something smaller. I'd been thinking about the CRKT Biwa with the belt sheath, since I still quite like the neck model, but have little occasion to wear a neck knife anymore and I'm not a fan of the attachable belt loop. At $50, I'd been thinking a lot. A buddy I used to work with spoke highly of something I never would have considered: www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-7-in-Fixed-Blade-Knife-with-Stainless-Steel-Blade-and-Polypropylene-Handle/1996238786I try not to shop at Walmart, but for $6? I bought two, because why not? Turns out, it's a pretty darn good little knife. I was stunned with its sharpness out of the "box". I'd planned to spend a few minutes honing and stropping it, but it was already shaving pretty well so I left it. Haven't had much occasion to use it yet, but it carries much better than the big fella did, even folded.

Here is the customized Mago OTF Italian switchblade with aluminum scales and carbon fiber look. It's the only one that has aluminum scales and weighs in at 8.37oz. as opposed to the other 9' blades at 7.04oz.
It didn't come with a clip and that makes it easier to get out, but the other knife I bought to sell did and they both had black bolsters sooo...I can sell that one at $10 off and still make $20, and since purveyor of porn isn't paying off like I would prefer, weapons warlord is the next best thing.

Sharp blades are good to have, if Shire-folk go walking, east, south, far away into dark and danger.

Picked up this one last week. Been wanting the auto version forever, but this manual showed up for just over $100 so I went for it. Just love the curve of it! 4" blade and hair shaving sharp. Attachments:
