So far it's 2 weeks before Christmas and the winner is "Yes", so we all can keep our first swords! As soon as I have sharpened a blade or did any customisation work, I am very reluctant to giving it away again.
And the longer I have something, the less likely I am to part with it.

No requirement, just nice. The poor, abused thing. "One day" I'll fix it up again.

Yes, it is a zweihänder possibly from Windlass Steelcrafts but I don't really remember. But I do still have it! One of the very earliest things I got after college.

Anyone else still have his first sword?
(And why no one else voted for bacon?)

(And why no one else voted for bacon?) Didn't wanna risk offending the Islamic swords I'd been collecting more recently.

At least it doesn't squeak when you cut it into slices.

Yep, the Windlass Commemorative 1906 saber. Its in pieces, but I have it.
Bacon--because it keeps cannibalism down to tolerable levels.

I would expect very few of us still have our first bacon in a form identifiable as bacon

Why is it in pieces if you don't mind? Being my first, I had no experience with the type: Turns out I hated the hilt, and the blade seemed too light. The blade itself is well-made and the temper is excellent, and the overall construction was solid; its was just a "meh" sword to my tastes. So I took it apart as a learning experience. The current shop plan is to cut the blade shorter and turn it into a sword-walking staff, sometime in the year 2030.

Also have a dismanteled blade around, which I plan to refurbish (horrible sharpening job, scratched all over), it has been there for over a year. Also been planning on making a grip for a knife and scabbards.
I thought in pieces as in broken and since I am getting a Windlass saber soon, I was interested what is needed to break one. Was it peened or screwed, I have read that many elaborate hilts of theirs are actually screwed on even if it says the're peened.

Depends on what you mean by "real." If you mean a sword-shaped piece of forged carbon steel with a rat-tail tang and a non-historical design, then no. I gave away all the crappy swords of my youth 4 moved and almost 20 years ago. If you mean what I would call a "real sword" now, then yes. Specifically, it's an early Hanwei Musashi katana. (The old crappy swords are the ones in the top picture...)

Nope, it was thrown out a couple years ago after it was ruined in a flood. Lasted 15 years tho, it was a very crude wakizashi with a stainless steel blade. Normally this would make it a wall hanger, but had a very thick and stout geometry with an almost axe like edge grind, so it made a decent hack and slash tool, my father used it for years to clear out 2 inch thick tree limbs in our yard lol

I still have, I'm pretty sure, that same "barbarian" sword (totally not the Atlantean or anything from Conan because copyrights) in a safe with some of my other decorative swords. Sadly, the four katana/wakizashi/tanto sets I have are still atop my entertainment center, in full view. A reminder of what not to do and educational tools for any interested visitors.
