Hi Everybody, I know we try to avoid politics here and this isn't really political on the surface but I'm not sure if many of you are aware of the current situation between Matt Easton and Shad Brooks of Shadiversity. Apparently Shad has been over in Britain and while there did a collaboration video with a few known YouTubers, one of them being Matt. Apparently Matt got some backlash on his channel for associating with Shad for Shad having more conservative views, so instead of ignoring the comments or defending his supposed friend, Matt chose to vehemently disassociate himself from Shad and remove their shared content from his channel. Pretty sad if you ask me and I am both shocked and ashamed Matt would act this way. Anyway if you would like to read up on the situation here's a link to Shad's response including Matt's bashing of Shad, www.youtube.com/@shadiversity/community

Don't know the exact info that Matt heard of a personal nature to make such a decision. However, it is telling that one would not contact Shad first before severing ties in this way. That much I can indeed say is BS and a move as potentially bad as the charges leveled.

Matt doesn't seem the type to do this for no reason. This gives me bad soap-opera vibes. To be honest, I had no idea what political viewpoint or religion each affiliates with, does not matter to me unless I get it shoved down my throat.

Think one should still confront and verify with the friend before "shunning" that person.

I personally disapprove of the idea of “loudly” publicly shunning a person without publicly stating why.
I personally disapprove of the idea of “loudly” publicly shunning a person without actually communicating with that person first if reasonably possible.
I especially disapprove of these things being done by a public person, because it might encourage their followers to participate in the shunning, and can imply that disagreement will lead to them being shunned as well.
It all reminds me of conviction and punishment without trial, or even making specific charges.
That’s just my personal opinion.

Basically Shad has recently been affiliating with the Nerdrotic channel and his affiliates under their Friday Night Tights web show on YouTube under his KnightsWatch channel. Basically they focus on Hollywood and a lot of the "Woke" agenda stuff going around in the film industry these days for example the Disney situation with "modern takes" on classic Disney animations and Star Wars, Marvel and etc. Seems that since Shad leans right on a lot of those things, he's too much for Matt.

Matt is not trying to cancel Shad Brooks. Matt did not cave into pressure. Shad is not a victim of cancel culture, nor is he being oppressed. Shad is being publicly rebuked by a peer who has decided to disassociate from him due to his beliefs being completely incongruent with his own, and due to his belief that Shad's views may cause or have caused people he cares about harm. You don't have to like it, you don't have to respect it, but characterizing his behavior as an attempt to cancel Shad Brooks is entirely without merit.

If true, cancel culture run amok, and an extremely petty reason for such a draconian maneuver. But even in not knowing the details, a private talk to the man is just basic common decency and the right thing to do, let alone a public airing without detailed context.

And with that being said, goodbye to this forum forever. Your first post simply makes no sense, says NOTHING because there is no info, let alone context, therefore merit. You don't have to "like or respect" Shads decision either, and we can discuss it, if it's all right with you. Why not privately discuss the issue with a friend before such a private, and public, move? Your second post, however, makes perfect sense and tells us much indeed.

And with that being said, goodbye to this forum forever. Who was that one? Probably worked, until recently, on Bud Lights advertising staff.

And with that being said, goodbye to this forum forever. The above is, in a word, sad. There are other apt descriptions. The person-formally-known-as-Blueknight has chosen...poorly.

Exactly, especially with a man you have had years of dialogue with and rebuttals as he, Shad and even Skallgrim have had. It's not like this is news to Matt regarding Shads personal views. No this is more monetary I believe than anything and that even puts a real negative light on Matt. Basically those that influence his revenue cried and he went a' bashing. It's pretty pathetic that literally a day after they spent a great day sharing swords and interacting he goes all hard and dark on the guy. Matt knew Shad's views before the meet and chose to act based on who cried woke and to keep his butt out of the grinder he chose to drop Shad. It's really sad and really speaks to Matt's integrity based on his bias regarding other people's personal views and beliefs.

I just hope he's got a moment away from the very-small-but-mightily-Leftist town of London to think about it and issue an apology, privately to Shad, if not publicly. But there but for the grace of God, etc., etc., he wouldn't be the first guy with a new mortgage to debase himself to Mammon in order to feed a family. But equally, by golly, you can't complain when someone takes you at your word, and this is wishy-washy behavior. Let's not all rage-quit on him yet, like semprini-face above; but the boy's got some 'splainin' to do.

I hope so too, our community is small enough without us attacking each other over petty political views, we all love swords let's leave it at that and avoid letting personal views change that. But yea this is definitely a money thing and be it from his HEMA group or whatever university he is associated with calling the shots. But if it is more personal than that's even worse...

Matt's post is included in Shad's post right below. It's the same post you linked. So I'm assuming those that have read the initial link read both posts from each party.

Yeah, but it states outright some of the things being speculated about, and goes out of its way to specifically avoid some of the things Matt is being accused of, so I have to assume at least some posters have not read it. (Or have read it but decided to disregard it for some reason, I suppose.)
