We got another thing (experimental buy) coming (in) soon: a two handed Katzbakger, made by Pavel Leier. Since Lutel Handicraft is gone, we were looking for an alternative. More self-shot pics when it arrives on Tuesday...

Well I haven't bought much swords (especially modern ones) in recent years, and I wont be buying much in some upcoming years either. Took almost an year from order to finish but I was not worrying too much about it. As some might know I've ordered stuff from Italian vendor YarinoHanzo before, and I have been pleased about their customer service and what they deliver when I ask for custom sword. Their katana configurator is very easy to use, and provides lot more easier option than communicating with Chinese forges directly.
Some might call me upon recommending and continuously dealing with the company, I don't really mind it... I think I got a great deal here (of course I utilized the large discount offer their site had on all orders when ordering a custom), I got a custom ōdachi delivered to Finland for about 300€.
Few specs that people might be interested on, blade is 1060 DH with suguha hamon, it is actually quite nice under the very basic polish. I ordered their maximum 95 cm blade length, this is 95,8 cm when I measured it. I ordered the maximum 3,6 cm motohaba and 2,6 cm sakihaba on this, they are 3,6 and 2,5. Owner Francesco actually messaged me after I made the order and recommended these fuchi & kashira instead of ones I originally chose as this set is the only one that will properly fit extra wide blade. Minor details like that is something that I really appreciate. The hi has the "geometric" ending near kissaki, I know it is important for many. I ordered a sharp one. YarinoHanzo has greatly improved their tsuka, I am very happy with this one (only downside on it is that mekugi pins are under the wrap, and I don't want to disassemble the sword now). I chose haichi shape for tsuka and hiramaki in green Chinese silk. I saved on some options to keep it at very reasonable cost, for example I chose the cheapest options for saya. The thing is due to length & width of this sword the saya had to be totally custom made to this specific sword.
I must admit I am really happy with the end product and still amazed I could get this custom sword for what little money I spent.
Here are two pics of it next to Hanwei Claymore, they are about similar sized, for comparison Ōdachi weighs c. 1320 grams while Claymore weighs c. 2450 grams.

Always great to see Neil Burridge's bronze swords, the scabbard looks amazing too.

Sorry for the crappy pictures (taken in less than two minutes between two customers) The Voidwalker from Great Gurkha Khukuri Quick quick review : Very beautiful (my pictures really don't make it justice), handle is super comfy. Sharp and fast as hell, light like I couldn't believe (and it's not their lightest model in the least). Interesting non-traditional alternate "Karda" (utility knife) and not-"Chakmak" (sharpener). The utility knife has a comfy handle too but makes the whole a bit "bulky". Super sharp too. The sharpener is of course blunt. Was covered in rust ? I just love its placement on the side of the sheath, as it is kind of flat with a bare handle, it is not bulky at all. Would a "hybrid" utility knife/sharpener (sharp on one edge/blunt on the other) be plausible or even useful ? I just love how they added some place without adding too much bulk, very handy (sorry, I don't think I am making sense now). The only flaw was a hole in the pocket for the "Karda" (it is SHARP after all...). I have to say that the sheath has such an elegant and perfect fit, it's crazy. So, thank you again Brother Nathaniel and Eric Bergeron for introducing me to the world of Khukuris. I am really grateful.

Hehe... now total opposite of the super high class sword; well sometimes there are little portions of luck even in hard times: this thing here glitched through customs with no additional money paid; was cheap, though. I use Holgers text from a FB group here: "So gents, this is what you can get for 135 USD in China - IF you are lucky! 😜 From AliExpress seller "Shop600942" (sounds trustworthy, eh? Sometimes i just feel the need to take a plunge... 😎): a dual handed no type specified saber with simple fittings (this was bought for taking fantasy pics, so the fittings are cool because i didnt want too obvious chines ornaments) and a very unique wood core scabbard as well as a shoulder strap (no real leather here, of course; but he didnt advertise it neither). I doubt the fittings are brass, looks more "alloy" stuff to me. Grip is wood and everything feels good and solid so far. I expected a decent wallhanger and got a fully(?) functional sword with the slightest of bends on about 5 cm of the tip; barely visible. And this was packed in one of the best packaging jobs i ever have seen in my collectors time! Not bad!"

I can live with the PU leather wrap, and the interesting plastic stuff covering the scabbard... well, project blade, i guess. Or sell through. We will see.
