I agree with pgandy. Those look great! That green scale, that is crazy beautiful! Thank you so much! I was very hesitant about putting the pix up, because I'd totally understand if someone felt I wasn't being respectful to the idea or the tradition of the katana. (I wouldn't agree, but I'd understand.)
And of course I'm still not confident about my technique. This helps a lot!

Not submitting for the drawing. This year I got serious about customizing these things, upgraded some gear, and learned a lot of techniques and tricks. I wanted to learn traditional, restoration, and customizing techniques on swords where mistakes wouldn't ruin something old or valuable (or both). Because the stakes were low -- all I was risking was the time invested -- some of the fun was in seeing how far I could go in salvaging, refurbishing, and reimagining the trashed originals. All of these were taken down to bare wood and rewrapped/repainted. The blades were repolished as best I could. Two of these (the green-scaled katana & the sorta carbon-fiber wakizashi) looked as if they'd been beat with rebar, or maybe lost a fight with a tiger, when someone gave them to me. The dark-red stencil-patterned one is a $60 Musha cheapie. I hope everyone has a great & safe New Year! ![]() ![]() Now these are the kind of katana customizations I can get behind. Very very beauitful

It is the 21st Century. This sort of designing is what is needed and your technique is fine.

I'll post projects in the Members Designs Sword Customizations section in the future. I usually document the process, so I'll either post some of those pix as well, or link to blog posts on the projects.
Thanks to everyone for your kind comments -- it really does give me more confidence about doing this.

Steveboy, I’m going along with everyone else, they look great. Beautiful. Love the detailing. Really like the way you fade out the paint on the saya(s). Again, beautiful.

![]() Despite the steel type issue, Balaur Arms - 15th Century Italian Longsword is my favourite. It cuts thru anything I give it with ease… But I never handled blades that are more expensive than 400 $ so…

Hans Karlsson carving axe. I've had it for a few years, and it's a joy to use. Attachments:

I deleted my first post here because in the meantime I got a Windlass Sword of Avalon for Christmass and I really like it, best in the moment. It has an unexpected good handling despite not being a lightweight, just good mass distribution. Again I smuggle in my two fx lightsabers as festive illumination together with my Christmas tree. I'm still out of the drawing for prices! Happy New Year!

Apologies for the late entry, been quite sick for the past few days (and it's about 8:00 PM here in the desert ) Here is mine, the Arms and Armor German Branch sword. This one is the first sword I ever really WANTED. I'd spent years with some cold steels and browsing albion a bit but I can distinctly remember finding this one in summer 2015 in college and being in love with it. Of course, it took a degree and some years and a job to actually be able to afford it, but it was such a milestone for me to acquire it. I love the sword itself. It is a perfect longsword. Heavy enough to cut with but light enough to wear all day. Not too long, not too short. Nice and stiff for thrusting too. It comes from what is arguably one of the most famous museum swords of all time and it looks gorgeous too. I personally think this is the best sword Arms and Armor offers!
