SBG New Year Event!
Brought to you by your friendly neighborhood Moderation Team. The rules... Post a picture of your favorite edged possession for 2021. It doesn't have to be purchased in 2021, just your favorite in 2021. You know, that Randall you bought in 1988, that Albion you bought in 2012 or even that Vince Evans you bought in 2019. If it made it into the rotation this year and struck you as number one, enter it. Try and make the photo festive for added cheer. If you can't take a photo for some reason (no camera, fingers in a cast, serious lack of energy, whatever...) just describe your 2021 favorite and a brief explanation as to why it ranks your number one this year. That's it. That's all there is to it. Each entry will get a chance to win one of our prizes. Each winner is responsible for shipping charges. Condor Tool and Knife Undertaker Bowie Knife. condortk.com/products/product/62706and Ex Gurkha Khukuri House Military Jungle Gurkha Khukuri www.kultofathena.com/product/military-jungle-gurkha-khukuri-9-1-2-blade/and Bear Edge Pattern 102 4-1/2 in. OD Green G10 Sideliner W/Trigger bearandsoncutlery.com/product/be_102/Contest will start December 1st and the last entry will need to be submitted no later than midnight December 31. The drawing will be held January 1st 2022.

Example entry... My Swamp Rat Mega Ratweiler along with Viking Santa for added cheer Why is it number one this year? Because it always brings a smile to my face when I have it in hand and I don't have anything else quite like it. It is truly a "mega" knife. Remember, a picture is not required only the what and why.

My Albion Warwick. I received the sword this year after a long wait. I really love the type XVIa, and the way this handles with the long grip is amazing. Making a scabbard for this is a work in progress. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

Joy and Salutations to all! This is the result of a long-seated desire to swing a turcael. There are none on the repro market, and I don't have the money for a custom; what with Covid unemployment and all, this year I had a great reason--and plenty of time--to try my hand at creating one. I made some really dumb and costly mistakes, but I learned some new skills, and I brought this to fruition. I would have no qualms about taking it into a scrum. A dream fulfilled--of course its my favorite! A more descriptive view: Cheers to all in the New Year!

Here’s wishing you fine folks a Merry Christmas and happy New Year! I am not eligible for the give-away, so I’m offering up my entry in the joyous hopeful spirit of Christmas and the wide-open promise of the coming New Year. As I look back over 2021, I must say that it was tough to decide my favorite knife or sword. My collection is pretty humble compared to the private armories and curated museums a lot of you guys so kindly share with us. However, each member of my bladed forever family holds a particular appeal to me. Gorgeous lines, adept handling, superb craftsmanship, well-adapted usefulness, historical significance; any combination of these is high art when deftly expressed in the ferocious medium of sharp steel. Upon reflection, my favor surprisingly turned to my Swiss model 1867 mounted officer saber. This has always been one of my most prized swords. Examples in good condition are relatively inexpensive, and are purportedly fairly common on the European continent. They are hard to come by in the States, though, making this a bit of a budget-friendly prize in my neck of the woods. The saber feels great in the hand. It boasts speed and precision enough for fencing, yet it is sufficiently robust to rigorously scrap against aggressive professionals met on the field of battle. Or so my imagination tells me. It is well constructed to close tolerances. And to my eye, it is beautiful. My example remains in very nice condition. I’m quite pleased to have it, and hope to be a good caretaker. I look forward to passing it on to my son when he is of age. Best regards to each of you in 2022.

That’s a nice looking sabre pellius. Like last year I’m not eligible but I like playing. Judging by my most used knife the Windlass Mk3 kukri that I obtained this year is. Of course that will change with different criteria. The official name is Genuine Gurkha Regimental Kukri. I can’t explain the original attraction for this knife and I received a number of good natured adverse opinions questioning the wisdom of my purchase such there are better ones and remember government contracts go to the lowest bidder. Those and more are true. The kukri is good and has a useful design, as for the accessories that Windlass supplied with it I’ll be polite and just say they are wanting, save the chakmak which I find quite good. I’ve dug, pruned, pried, used it for pest control (snail killer), as well as other GP work, and then not to forget the backyard cutting fun. It is nicely balanced for such tasks. Those dark spots are not rust but stains from various plants.

Mine would have to be my BCI Sword of Danu. I consider this one MY sword, we opposed to just A SWORD. The sword I would take into battle if I was in some sort of battle. Made from a drawing of mine, and given to me, it is something I'll always prize, and it will always remind me of how this forum has been a home to me for over a decade. Apologies for the sap. But I consider this the sword I want to be buried with If I ever had to lose everything I own, this is the last thing they would take from me. I'm grateful for it and this forum for helping me obtain it

Hmmph, sounds like a love afair to me. Hahahaha, it's as close to one I can get with a sword. If my house was burning its the thing I would grab and jump out the window

Condor Tactana, a sword only a lowlife tactical bottom feeder cold love. Actually I don't like tactical stuff generally but for some reason I like this thing. With a 21" blade and 9" handle, it's more of a wak than a katana. At a little more than 2 pounds (977g), it's quite nimble in two hands and with so much weight in the full-tang hilt, it handles well with one hand. Aesthetically, the tsuba is, um ... sturdy. It looks like it was cut from a World War I armored car. The edge geometry maybe leaves something to be desired by I find it easy to sharpen and it's a good cutter in my experience. The scabbard is a little strange but it slips pretty comfortably into a belt. Also it mounts well on my molle daypack and is easy to draw from my back. This may be my go-to sword if I ever have to wander the post-apocalyptic wastelands.

A perfect sword to bring camping or hiking (not that you would ever need a sword for either but if you did, this is it)

Now and forever. I have always loved the Conan sword but found some elements lacking. When I found Jefferey Robinson aka brother banzi on here I contacted him about making changes to the Conan Atlantean. He asked about doing a new design but still following the outline of the Atlantean. This is the result.

This is my Tom Kinder longsword. It's far from perfect - the lines wobble, there's a slight bend near the tip, the grip is a bit too chunky, and the pommel a bit too small. But there's something about it that just speaks to me. Maybe it's the antique wrought iron of the crossguard and the pommel. Or it might be the beautiful handling. I don't know, but I find when I go to pick up a sword to enjoy handling and admiring, this one always grabs my attention.
P.S. I ask not to be included in the drawing for prizes to allow others a better chance.

My favourite edged possession for 2021 would have to be the Jody Samson "Lady Vivamus" Prototype blade that I acquired from Bernard H from these very forums. As a Samson and Lady Vivamus fan, it was sublime joy to get the prototype for the Lady Vivamus sword, signed and inscribed by Jody himself to Howard Waddell. Marco Danelli worked on the hilt after much discussion with me and we picked a basket hilt as best suited to that particular kind of blade. Jody's Makers mark was also reference in an homage on the hilt with a lion on there as well. The sword has a lot of blade presence, but is nimble in the hand, and gives me tremendous joy to look at and dry handle.
Happy 2022 everyone, and thanks SBG for hosting the competition. Pretty sure I won't win , but just wanted to share this
Kind regards all Rann
