I just thought I would throw this out there to see what everyone else has heard. I was conversing with a UC representative the other day, and asked if there were any other Museum Collection or otherwise high carbon Lord of the Rings swords in the works. She actually stated that a high carbon Anduril IS in the works, and while there is no release date, should be out next year! She didn't specify if it would technically be a Museum Collection or some other line, but she did say there is supposed to be a high carbon Anduril coming out! How exciting! Has anyone else heard this news yet?! Or know any more about it?!
I thought that would be fun news to throw out there and talk about. : ) As people go crazy for especially the UC MC Glamdring, i'm sure this will be beyond exciting news. I sure hope it ends up happening....

HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP!!!! (deep breath) Sorry, just that i've been dreaming for a UC MC Anduril since they first announced the MC line about 15 years ago!! And have been constantly bugging UC about trying to bring back this line, but always followed by a "No Plans".
My best guess is... I know UC wanted to plan something for the LOTR 20th Anniversary. With absolutely no teasers about making a special product for next year, and needing time to develop... I'm thinking it would be easier just to "upgrade" or "bling out" a current item they already have the molds for. Regardless - count me super excited!!

Oh daaaaaaaamn. I usually never choose what sword I buy, as I am usually too damn poor for that luxury. But I would literally save money at my usual unpredictable rate, just to get one of these. Too bad it wasn't the ranger sword, but if they do this one good, I would be pretty happy with it

My hope is they redo the entire line with more functional replicas. UC now has the ability to make functional longswords... so it's possible. Wishful thinking, but possible

That would be amazing. I'd have to redo my collection lol.
If they do Anduril, it would be cool for Orcrist as well. Ranger sword as mentioned.
The mc line was just samwise glamdring and sting I believe.

Glamdring and Sting were true MC - tempered carbon steel blades, antique silvered hilts, etc. But Sam's sword made it into the line only with a "Battle Worn" distressed finish - no change to quality. If I recall, after Glamdring and Sting, the next 2 were supposed to be Anduril and Strider's Ranger sword. I actually didn't purchase an Anduril for years because I was always awaiting the MC version lol.

In your opinion is UC thinking that they could produce a cheaper one and since they are already known for their LOTR products they would have an advantage in pushing them?

There are no official carbon Andurils out there. They only made Sting and Glamdring in a carbon blade. They made Sam's blade as a "Museum Collection", which therefore should have been high carbon, but for some reason it is just stainless and not high carbon... Sure there are plenty of high carbon custom versions on the market, both super expensive and super cheap china blades, and ironically Darkswords more mass produced version is one of the absolute closest! But no official totally accurate carbon versions at all. Only the stainless steel ones by United and back in the day Noble Collection.

It always made me wonder - if DSA is unofficial... why does BudK sell the DSA LOTR replicas on their website along with their official UC ones...? Directly from Kit Rae : "A few months back we discussed what it would take to make a completely functional, battle ready Anduril with steel hilt parts, costs, et cetera." "They can cast the guard and pommel in steel, but the detailing would have to be simplified...which means it won't look like Anduril anymore." "They are sending me an Anduril with a carbon steel blade to test, but I think it's built with the stock cast and plated hilt parts. Functional forged blades are easy for them, but they also need non breakable hilts, so I'm not getting my hopes up." "Well, let's not jump ahead. There is no new line. They just expressed an interest in fully functional LOTR swords, so I discussed what it would take to do it right vs just sticking a carbon steel blade in the current hilts. It's a difference between a few thousand $$$ (and simplifying the designs) vs adding 10-20% and changing nothing (which won't really be functional). The sample being sent to me is something their LOTR factory worked up, but they do not make functional swords so I am not expecting it to hold up to what I will do when I test it." Noticed today they have an Anduril scabbard for sale.
May this bode well for a new, mc Anduril?
Personally, I wouldn't be too hung up on what Kit was saying regarding the hint components. A good carbon steel blade with existing components and a long screw in "tang into pommel " construction would be plenty for swinging around or cutting a water bottle if you got a wild hair. Epoxy does the rest!
A lot of old windlass film /fantasy models went this route and held up fine.
Not saying you can treat it like a zombie tools but why would you with a collector sword anyway?

I think hilt construction would go along way anyway in regards to the overall feel and security of handling these display type swords. They dont need to be heat treated just get off the cheap rat tail tang and put an actual tang through the handle and screw or epoxy it solid. Stainless steel or not at least you could swing it around at renfairs or in the yard without worrying it'll snap at the handle.

I think if this "newer MC" line with Carbon Steel Anduril takes off and sells well... only then will we see the other swords being remade. Good news is this project hasn't been scrapped - so fingers crossed! I think the current UC LOTR hilt constructions are still decent enough to withstand light cutting. I recall watching a video of Adam Savage and Peter Lyon taking apart a UC Ranger sword to use the hilt furniture for Adam's custom Strider sword... and they were impressed with it's durability lol.

As per Drew from UC: "Anduril Museum Collection coming at you. The biggest changes are the etches and blood groove are correct, the etching on the current Anduril has always been slightly off. The blade is 1060 carbon with a high polish on it (it looks totally different than the current Anduril) then the plaque and banner are new. There's a few other changes, but I'll wait until the prototype gets here to tell you about that. (this is a rendering, prototype has not arrived yet)"
