darkwoodarmory.com/I do not know how many people follow Darkwood on Facebook. What happened is Scott Wilson, the owner, shared a meme about Ilan Omar and AOC comparing Somalia to Minesota on his personal Facebook page. Right now, and the post on Facebook may get deleted by the time you read this, the mob is after Darkwood because he shared this political meme. It just seems like no community is safe these days from cancel culture. I will not touch on the politics of the two house members in the meme. I am just sick of cancel culture and do not want one of my favorite Rapier forges canceled. Darkwood did post a statement clarifying Scott's views are different than the company.

Wow I did not know there was a name for this tactic. Man you got a good point there.

The only thing that I can take away from this is that , In general, I believe he should have known better then to publicly(I understand it was HIS facebook page but still) post this kind of thing. It's not like we haven't seen this sort of response happen before over similar actions. Perhaps he didn't know his audience/friends list as well as he thought he did. Um why shouldn’t he post what he wants on his Facebook page?

Unfortunately, a person's personal page is seldom seen as sufficiently separate from their business page.
Anybody representing a business should be very careful what they post online. Personal opinions are fine to have, and you may certainly share them among your private circles as you please, but anything you say or do online has the potential to attract negative attention and with that comes negative consequences.
Do I believe this is right, or even okay? No. But such is the way of the modern, digital, always-online world.

I agree with what others posted about Scott having the right to say what he wants and others have the right to critize it. Here is my thing. Albion swords owner from what I have seen is pretty left of center. They made the swords for Arn the movie and the book it is based on author has a very left leaning slant. I would not hold it against Albion nor cancel them or encourage others to do so because of this. Yet Scott shares a center right meme and a flood of people rush to try and cancel. This is not him saying this as Darkwood but, his personal FB page. Why can people just not accept difference of opinion?

Because too many people use politics as their sole form of identity, and those who lean one way or the other more so are even worse.

Excuse me, I stay deliberately out of the loop as far as most social media goes. Are people organizing a boycott of Darkwood Armory?

Anyone surprised? Speak your mind, either in seriousness or jest, and you are cancelled.
My sympathies to those truly affected. I hope no wrong comes your way. Live in peace, be at peace and go in peace.

Excuse me, I stay deliberately out of the loop as far as most social media goes. Are people organizing a boycott of Darkwood Armory? Not a direct boycott, it is a lot of SCA and HEMA people individually posting "I dare you!" on their official Facebook page with a number of people defending Scott's right to his personal political opinions. I posted a reply on there last night on Darkwood's official Facebook page. I have not checked it since. Update, I checked the sewer of Facebook. There are many SCA snowflakes still demanding an official apology from Scott.

This thread is no different than discussing another forum and personal values. I am now intrigued that a global moderator has responded and not simply removed, or ended the discussion. I am not embracing, nor denying the sewing circle church lady "values" but the inanity of the action and bringing it here is just stupid.

C'mon. Lets go. Let's have a go at the U.S. Constitution and the 1st Amendment. Clearly topics SBG should embrace.

The one thing I can take from this thread and social media is, just ignore it.
Seriously, dont feed the trolls and they wont have the strength to pull you under the bridge. Simple as that. I'm definitely not one to limit one's freedom of speech, nor am I one to claim sanctuary via not saying anything at all. But if you're going to say something make sure it means something to you and matters and don't play the cynic or joker.
This whole cancel culture only works because people allow themselves to be bullied by these types of groupings. Its a dual psychosis where people want both the attention of the crowd and to be left alone by said crowds. Its an oxymoron.....
Being one who has a public social media account with my YouTube channel I keep things dry and simple for a reason. Mainly because I dont seek personal attention so much as I seek to share information or focus for sword enthusiasm in general much like I do here. I do reviews because I enjoy analyzing the swords I buy and researching their historical significance as a replica. That's what I share.
This thread basically promotes cancel culture by giving it the negative attention it wants. Again if everyone quit whining and worrying about what other people say and quit necessitating attention seeking behavior for personal gratification then this social media craze would just die off.

Would someone who knows the details please DM them to me? The Darkwood Armory page linked shows nothing.
Edit: To clarify - I'm assuming there must have been something more than a single political meme to generate this kind of reaction. Maybe Scott eats babies, I'm not saying he does, but he may have one in a roasting pan with potatoes, carrots, and onions as I write this.

OK, look.
Aside from their own statement that the views of their owner don't represent the company as a whole, I haven't been able to find anything about Darkwood Armory being targeted or affected in any way by people's reaction to his Facebook activities, so I can only assume that this is nothing more than standard Facebook drama.
As such, I see nothing constructive coming from further discussion on this, so I'm locking the thread. If you feel otherwise and have further pertinent information to back it up, PM me.
