I just caught a couple episodes of the new Star Trek series. I hadn't realized how much I missed watching Patrick Stewart.
What do the rest of you think about it so far?

Haven't watched yet, but plan on it. Huge Trekkie here. Tonally, so far, it seems very different from what came before. I don't agree with every choice they've made so far, but I'm still happily onboard. I'm really enjoying the deeper look we are getting at different aspects of Romulan culture (not really a spoiler).

I'm fine with a different tone. I'm not one of those fans who demands everything be the same. I may watch tomorrow.

Loved the original series. Enjoyed even sequenced (#2,4,6) movies more than odd (#1,3)...#5 being an abomination (low budget was a big hindrance). Tolerated Generations and watched the spinoff shows & movies sporadically. Reboot was alright and I hear the new series is good. I don't know very much about Picard but will check it out if I hear it's good. The original Star Trek series had (my opinion REALLY unique) the best music sound effects in TV history.

Picard is super and heartwarming for all TNG fans... speaking of the first 1979 Star Trek movie: i never have understood and never will understand the hatred for this fantastic movie: all around Star Trek feeling, fantastic special effects, very good score, GOOD story with GREAT Twist - whats wrong here? It is a slow burner yes, but more Star Trek and Fleet than the militaristic stuff that came up with TWOK (uniforms!). TNG made the things right again, as much as i love the movies 2 to 6 (well, 5... errh).

It's because the plot was for an hour long TV pilot that was stretched out to two hours with nothing more than prolonged shots. It's just a tedious experience despite the great effects for the time and acceptable plot.

But well... i love Matrix II and III more than Matrix I and i much prefer the Star Wars prequels much more than the sequels. Or better said: I dont like the sequels at all. ;-)

The movies were not good, but the cardinal sin was that the trilogy has no coherent plot.

Yes what a joke that trilogy was... i dont care about Star Wars too much, i m the Trek groupie, but Holger was right way destroyed after "Episode" VIII... and after TROS itwas all worse. As i wrote back then we had free tickets, but hey! That "lightspeed-hopping"? The whole torn-by-the-hair emperor story? No, thank you, Disney.

I dislike the JJA reboot and the Bad Robot material in general. Disco is at times unwatchable, the camera banks and turns in every scene and there are constant explosions and running scenes. The people who make it don't understand Trek and don't respect their audience. Picard is supposedly an improvement, but I'm going to wait to see how it pans out. I don't trust these people at all.
As far as SW, Mandalorian is here to save us! A simple tale told well. That's the secret.

Matrix was near perfect (and a plotline rip off of the movie Dark City). The sequels were simply an awful letdown. Dandelion, you may very well be the only person I've encountered who actually liked the sequels more (which is good for you because you had two movies to my one ).

I find Red Letter Media is generally pretty solid in their estimation of Trek movies/shows. Don't always agree with their assessments, but it's usually spot on. If you don't think about the show much, you will be entertained. Otherwise, it's pretty lame.

If only they could combine them, then put it all through a cord which ran into you home to your tv. We could call the whole system, hmm, let’s see... I know! Cable. I don’t know if that would really work though. Just an idea.
