That Romulan he enlisted to be his bodyguard looks like an elf from LOTR. Also, anyone notice how big the ears are now on the Vulcans and Romulans? They look like hybrids with wolf ears.....lol

They look like hybrids with wolf ears.....lol From what I've seen of it so far. the acting seems fine (with Stewart, no surprise), but the writing seems to be looting Star Wars, Andromeda, and fantasy (such as LOTR) for concepts, rather than inventing their own. That usually doesn't bode well.

It will be interesting to see if the predictions pan out. I'm still sticking with my prediction that the Earth will be destroyed.
The common theme through almost all the critiques of the JAA/Bad Robot Trek is that it isn't Trek. It's something fundamentally different. I guess if we judge it on that basis, it's acceptable as popcorn fare.

For sure acceptable as popcorn fare. No doubt it's entertaining. Just. Don't. Think about it.
Then it's a bit painful..

What exactly is the problem with "JJA/Bad Robot Trek" as you guys call it? I consider myself a quite real trekkie since TOS back in our 70ies German TV (Holger is the Star Wars freak, or better was, hehe) and watched literally everything; but i fail to see why all the anger comes on the new movies or "Discovery"? Just asking for interest, nothing more. I found "DS9" far worse, like "Dallas" in space...

It was a punk turned hero story that didn’t actually make him any more likable. I actually really liked ID though. Haven’t gotten around to watching the third one though even though I’ve owned the blu ray for years. I think a good chunk of it is legitimate criticisms but also the whole obsessive fan problem is in effect. You get people who internalize series and think they somehow own it and usually want it to stay exactly the same.

DS9 is where the typical Star Trek formula started to become less Trek and more mainstream. Combat, action, sass, less cerebral, etc.
New movies, exactly what NTN said.. characters were one dimensional and illogical. Spock is a Vulcan? They made him the most emotional crew member on the Enterprise.. Kirk hooked up with a green lady in one episode from TOS? He's a cocky womanizer.
The new series (Discovery, Picard) also completely fly in the face of most established "lore" and often just get things wrong about how things have previously worked in the Star Trek universe, from technology to cultural norms.
They are amusing (the new movies and series) but not only a massive departure from Trek in tone (totally fine) but a big departure in established lore/logic. I'd recommend watching the videos I posted above for a taste of what I'm talking about. They are also entertaining videos.

TNG is still my dearest Star Trek, and Picard hits it superb in my opinion. The feel of the TNG movies right there. But i am always the outsider; so i dont wonder too much. I adore the first Star Trek movie, i hate the fourth. Number five is still an abomination, except for the Klingon captain (and his first officer!). I loved TNG Nemesis. I loved the new Khan movie, the third one was meh. But: to each his own; theres no other way.

Just a perfect Wild West In Space, exactly how the network execs envisioned when they conceived the original series.

I like all the Trek stuff, even The Orville, for different reasons. TOS because when I was child it was incredible amazing, today a bit meh. TNG is indeed the best Trek utopia dream. DS9 was good too with more dark war stuff. Voyager had Seven, not so good first seasons, but ok later. Enterprise had a new perspective. The Orville has the soul of TNG with better fun. Discovery is headspinning action. In general I like the series better than the movies. But a "not so good" Trek movie is better than nothing. Qapla', live long and prosper!

The redshirt lived through it.
