Unfortunately this forum is going in the direction of this thread. I hope the M&V / SBG member interaction rules might include people in this hobby (other forums, personalities etc.) / SBG members too? I'll just go back to my cave...

It's just a little silliness, which I think is a cure for cynicism. I will do my part to stop it. Apologies.

Looks like we found a good cure for cynizism: sempriniing about someone else! Light the torches, pass the pitchforks! It can be difficult to read tone through the medium of text. It was my intent to tease, not to semprini. I think Skall can take it, but as I said, I will withdraw. I don't want to offend.

I think that's what I keep telling myself. *FIND THE PERFECT ONE.* Reality says, there is no *perfect one*. You get close enough and call it good. Same with spouses---First one was great, second one---not so great---third one---a keeper. Number four? Ain't happening. Christain, or anyone else for that matter, take it from an old man. Here are 5 ways to be completely happy. Be with a woman who makes you laugh, a woman who gives you her time, a woman who takes care of you, a woman who really loves you. And make damn sure these four women don’t meet each other. some wisdom there! I have # 3 and #4, it is the other 2 I am sadly lacking.... I have no direct experience with Islam, but limiting a marriage to 4 wives sounds great.

Haha, no need to, I feel so uncynical in the moment (thinking about hoarding another Cutlass Machete )!

A cutlass machete? Is this a machete blade fixed to a cutlass hilt?

I would like to offer some clarification on a few of my posts in this thread.
To begin with, I started this thread to share my experience of feeling cynical about this hobby of mine. It was my intent to elicit others to share a similar experience and to offer solutions as to how I may overcome feeling cynical.
Was the thread hijacked or derailed along the way? Quite possibly. Did I contribute to hijacking the thread, the thread I started? Undoubtedly.
I believe I have discovered the solution to my cynical feelings as of late, and that is... all of you. I do get the sense that we are all in this together. We all share this same hobby or passion or interest, or whatever you choose to call it. This fellowship I feel between myself and other members of this forum enabled me, and others, to interject a little humor into the conversation last night.
Others may not share my sense of humor, and I certainly did not want to upset anyone or deliberately violate any forum rules. If I have done so, I apologize unreservedly and encourage the moderators to delete any posts they find offensive. When it comes to Skallagrim, some of my comments were churlish and, perhaps, inappropriate. Those remarks were intended purely for the sake of humor. I swear to that up and down. If they have offended, then please delete and I vow to never repeat such remarks again. The comments I made concerning Skall's videos and the ideas he espouses therein, I believe that is fair game. I believe I have a right to say that I felt his behavior was unprofessional and the conclusions he reached were ignorant or foolish. Perhaps this thread was not the appropriate place to share those views. If I have derailed the thread because of that, then I apologize.
I am walking away from this thread. Thank you, gentlemen, for sharing some humor with an old cynic.

It has gotten a bit ad hominem in here but as long as people dont take it further and stop it is fine imo as i see some of the criticisms as valid, but ones like that about skall's accent are not as cool

It is not just the vendors that sidestep participation here. Take a good long look at the member list and then wonder why they are still lurking but have nothing to say to this crew. Wonder why some that are quite active and contribute indirectly have no intent on discussing anything here.
It isn't an age thing and not even really a tenure thing. I'll get in trouble again for speaking my mind but SBG fosters the fun over facts. That's really it in a nutshell. There are a fair number of informational and useful discussions here from time to time but the signal to noise ratio is a bit strong on the static side (imo). It takes nothing (very little from me) to poke the hornets nest and that angry nest is why participation is so slack and void of an immense number of quite informative and experienced people.
Take a roll call on your own time and count how many active participants are posting to any given thread. Divide by the nonsense and choose whatever sum you feel grows a community and tell us what you want that community to look like. What is _your_ Utopian dream for SBG? What went wrong? Sure, blame only me and my lack of contribution.

OK, HOLD THE PHONE HOLD THE FREAKING PHONE! I just watched Skall's video and it was painful. HOWEVER, he claims that when he opened the box he knew something was not right about the sword. He had to do research to learn what was wrong with it. He did not know where the sword was found. He did not know that the scabbard throat had fused onto the upper guard. He even explains that archaeologists did not know this initially. So how can he, in good conscience, hold Windlass's boots to the fire for their stupidity, for their arrogance, for insulting his alleged Viking ancestors, whilst also being equally as ignorant?! Shouldn't he know this already? Shouldn't he be able to identify a major historical find that is clearly within his purview as a collector AND a Scandinavian? Hey, there's no shame in not knowing a thing! We're all born knowing nothing, and getting to know anything requires that you first realize you don't know, so shaming people for not knowing any particular thing is 100% counterproductive. It's not wanting to know that should be shamed. Skall did his research and found out the damn thing is made wrong. Why didn't Windlass do the same research before making the damn thing? It's not like this information is new or obscure or anything - Marto may have had an excuse, decades ago, but these days it's actually hard to find production quality pictures of the sword without also finding a mention of the scabbard's throat being stuck to the blade's guard. PS. Of course, you could argue that Skall should have done his homework before buying, which is fair enough.

I am on my way out for real life stuff but I'l respond to this.
I have just over 3,000 posts, so even that math you judge is flawed. The large percentage that you see might be that you generally have your blinders on. Go to my profile. Read those 3,000 posts and quite a few threads I have posted to this board.
I have accepted my character for how you might perceive it but at the same time will simply state that, once again, some aren't really paying attention. There is an option to ignore me but not only do you see me as baiting, you are setting yourself up to be easily bruised. Howler has expressed he loves the diatribe and similarly you waffle your attentions like some giddy teenager. Take the time to read all my posts through my profile and my contributions to yet another board.
The ignore button is there for you to use.

Since Skall is taking heat at present I thought that I’d turn up the heat a little. People, when you get that urge, please stop... breathe in... breathe out... and then do something else. A little heat is nice and cozy, but too much heat burns everything down.
