For functional armor, yes quite terrible sadly, for several reasons.
For a fantasy LARP piece? Probably fine

For 150 I don't think it looks awful. I agree with strigoil, you shouldn't plan on slamming it with a poleaxe but I think the look is quite decent for that price.

If it broke you could always repair it with better stuff and it would be good after that. I imagine the rivets would be it's weak point

That depends to some extent on the end use. I’d trust 16 ga. for moderate work but at least 14 ga. for serious bashing. It should give decent protection assuming you don’t exceed the limits of 16 ga. As for me, that’s not my style. That face shield is good on the battlefield against missile weapons but not one on one combat as it restricts breathing, hearing, and most importantly visibility. There may be a heating issue on hot days? To me it will best serve as display. But these are strictly my opinions. About the size, don’t forget to include anything worn underneath, but the padding looks more than adequate. The neck protection is questionable consider more protection in this area. I say that judging from the vendor’s post. The photo you posted shows protection, but what about turning your head?

This is the same style of helmet that is all over eBay and Amazon. What you get there is a gamble. I've bought from 'swordnarmoury' before, and they are a fairly reliable company, so I wouldn't be too terribly concerned. I've thought about a helm of this exact style several times.
I tried one on once at a Ren Fest, but I'm unsure of the maker. I think it may have been a Lord of Battles helm, as the vendor had other items from them. It was okay as breathing and head mobility goes, but peripheral vision was not very good unless the visor was raised or removed.
As size goes, my head is 23-1/2", and it was fairly tight fitting. However, the internal suspension is just glued in and can be removed easily for wearing an arming cap underneath. The chin cords are at least riveted on, so that's a plus.
As others have said, 16ga. is okay for light contact and costume wear, but maybe not for heavy fighting.

Thanks for the reply guys. I am just peeking through the keyhole here and realizing how deep this rabbit hole goes. Still, it's intriguing enough for me to take more time researching and learning before I make a purchase. Expect more newbie questions from me soon.

Ask away, the world of armor is vast and confusing, it feels really overwhelming for me even after over 2 years of learning.

I don't claim to be an armor expert by any means, but I have done my share of research on historic and modern 'off the shelf' armor...especially helmets. Any advice I can give I will do so gladly.

The more I learn the more I see that I need to learn. One thing that I’ve learned is that no matter what you buy as time goes on you will feel the need to upgrade. I find armour fascinating and love it.

I have this helmet or what appears to be the same one. I bought it a few years ago. The quality is decent and it fit me well. The visor is removable which was one of the features I liked. I'm not an expert just a collector and found it an interesting helmet and it was cheap so I took the plunge.

I just remembered that Medieval Collectibles has a version of this same helmet for $96. It's sold under the name of 'House of Warfare'-brand, which is probably just an offshoot brand of another maker. It has the same riveted chin cords, but the liner appears to be cloth. It also says the internal circumference is 26"+. Page 5, under 'Medieval helmets'...close to the bottom. (Sorry...I'm terrible at giving direct links. )
I may give this one a shot. If it absolutely sucks, at least MC's has a guaranteed return policy. www.medievalcollectibles.com
You can get it in 16ga. or 18ga.

You probably already know but I'll say it anyway; as the gauge number increases the thickness decreases.

Paging anima you are wearing a similar helm in your YouTube clips, do you have any input on this model?

It's made by Lord of Battles. It's 14G, sturdy and well made! Visor actually stays up and doesn't slam shut! Mines size large arming cap fits underneath! Vision is very clear!

That's good feedback, thank you! KoA lists the Lord of Battles model, but is out of stock currently. Can I ask where you got yours? One complaint I've heard (on an un-branded version with this style) is the lack of clearance for one's nose. It doesn't look like an issue with yours. Definitely not an issue for this guy The Medieval Collectibles version that christain mentioned would be my second choice (16 ga is the heaviest they offer). The padding looks like an arming cap wouldn't be necessary, but I don't like the prospect of that giant adjustment knot against the top my head.

I got it from KOA, plenty of space even for a big nose!

S.B.----You mentioned the liner adjustment knot being an issue. A few of my helmets have this type of liner in them. I replaced the leather cord with either para-cord or strong silk ribbon. If you turn the liner outside of the helmet and lace it through the holes correctly, the knot will be on the topside of the liner when you tuck it back in. You can also add strips of foam rubber between the liner and the inside of the helmet for an optimum fit. I wear glasses most of the time, so I put extra foam at forehead level to push the helmet further away from my face. Problem solved.

I always like the more obscure less common Italian Barbute design. kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=AB0336It seems like it would still offer pretty good vision and verbal communication while still offering good protection. Yeah...I've looked at that quite a few times also. I like the T-face design too. Actually, the one I'm most drawn to is the Barbute from Epic Armoury. More of a 'Y-face', if you will, and kinda has a 'fantasy' look to it. I don't actually do any reenactment or fighting anymore, so the 18ga. steel would do just fine for me. It's currently available at KoA still at the old sale price. I may wind up getting one. Looks like KoA reduced the size of their 'Sale' page, and now offer all those items as regular stock but still at the old 'on sale' price. I'll be glad to see them get the reviews feature back, as they are revamping their website.
