Favorite Windlass Sword

Windlass is probably my main company and my introduction to "battle ready" usable swords that I could afford.

My first windlass was a practical katana back in the year 2000. It came dull. It was like 120 bucks. I sharpened it about a decade later and chopped various mediums. Did well but noticed some chips/ edge rolling and decided to reach out to mrl who confirmed it to be 440 stainless. Not really what I'd call battle ready in something the length of a katana. I'll hang onto it, first sword and all.

I picked up a wire wrapped grip italian short sword. Still have it. It was from a member in the old sword forum back in 2008 I believe. 100 bucks. Still have it. Great balance wide blade. I think it's beautiful.

I got the sticklestad viking in 2009. Not a fan, ended up selling. I also sold my Towton and my sword of roven. Those were both worth keeping in hindsight.

They make a lot of movie swords. Almost grabbed a really ornate sword from the tudors series. I wish I had their coustille.

I've had a few and it's hard to remember what's passed through my b hands the last 20 years.

I used to live a few hours from kult of Athena, and before Ryan sold it they had a nice show room. I used to go and handle everything, so if I haven't owned it, I may still be able to give some thoughts or impressions of how a model handles.

A couple hours drive saved me probably hundreds as I could see how a sword moved and worked for me. I know this saved me from buying a gen 2 ranger, windlass Damascus viking, several different swords I thought i liked but once I handled, found they did not work for me.

Yeah, I like mine too.
Over the years I stopped buying "normal" swords from Windlass, the similar Hanwei's are usually better with distal taper.
The new Royal Armouries may be good, but I already have a  Hanwei of the type already.
Nevertheless there are still good Windlass swords.
Many of them are fantasy designs but often still real swords.
