rapier & main gauche XIV & warhammer bowie & tomahawk sword & buckler viking sword & round shield whatever? Think of a confrontation with the other combos, ... or a two handed weapon.

Why not two revolvers? Ok, only melee weapons meant!

When I saw the title my first thought was flintlock pistol and cutlass.

Why not two revolvers? Ok, only melee weapons meant! How about sabre and dagger? I vote rapier and dagger. I have been practicing for about 10 months now, and it's been a real trip learning just how effective the weapon set can be. Also have done some sabre and dagger, and my friend has been experimenting with it and it's a scary system as well going against it with a single swordm

Thats cheating I'm gonna have to go sidesword and rotella. I forget which fencing master said it, but supposedly with rapier and sidesword, rotella>buckler>dagger>nothing in offhand

A longer and a shorter weapon seems to be a usual choice. In my unskilled hands it also feels better. Two sabers? Interesting thought but not much lore about it afaik.

But I wanted to be silly haha I like using my bayonet with the curved guard (Spanish 1895) as a dagger. The guard is semi sufficient if I wear my gauntlet

Two weapons of equal length tend to be a bad idea. It's really easy to tangle yourself up. Marsden had some good points about what does and doesn't work with dual wielding here.

You know what I've been wanting to do? Sabre and rotella. Matt Easton has an interesting video where he advocates using it as essentially a boxing glove, holding it close to the chest in an upper guard and using the sabre regularly. I got out in a cut and thrust tournament when I was just starting out to someone using a rotella and a rapier. It pissed me off so much.

Your opponent could wear armor, what's with a warhammer in one hand?

Eastern Europe and Turkish militaries used the combo with both their infantry and cavalry from 1400s-1600s. You can see one in the foreground here. You also see sabres and round shields used in India and the Middle East.

Considering how one holds a rotella, it makes way more sense with saber than a buckler does. Even when I see Indian tulwar users with a dhal, they tend to hold it close to the body like a rotella
