I was just saying I didn't like the games... Were the books similar to the games? Or completely different? Same cast, same world 10 years or so in the future. The games build off of the books and expand into a few possible futures. The author of the books and the game writers don't collaborate so you can see pretty obvious differences in the portrayals of the characters.

That's weird. It would be curious to see how the series goes. The superman who also plays a witcher. hmm.

Just watched episode 1... YESSS!!! Strange way to tell a story at first impression and emotions (parallel storylines instead of simple "monster-of-the-week structure), but i think i can live with that and will get used to it. Nice swordplay; Witcher style, of course. LOTS of pirouettes and turns...

I think that's worth signing up to netflix for a month for. Don't disturb me for the next 8 hours of hacking and slashing... unless you bring pizza, beer and enhanced vampire oil.

I'm not familiar with the source material, but I'm not liking it very much in the first four episodes....
Except the one-take sword fight with the human thugs in episode 1.

The way the split storyline was handled was a headache for someone like me who is new to the franchise. Didn't feel like enough getting to know the witcher, either, just an immediate jump to evil hogwarts, prophecies, generic evil invaders dressed in black, etc...
Too much spinning in the fights, but there are a couple good ones. Seeing evil gothic nose-forehead man fight his doppleganger was a good scene.

Too much spinning in the fights, but there are a couple good ones. Seeing evil gothic nose-forehead man fight his doppleganger was a good scene. *evilhogwarts*... first of all: The academy Aretusa is NOTHING like evil. The Witcher worlds wizards and sorcerers choose their way more or less themselves when theyre of the schools. And Sapkowskis novel series (1994) came before Rowling (1997). The empire of Nilfgaard is nothing sooo evil either. The biggest nation of the continent, down south (much like medieval spain), has just the usual conquering needs. Their Emperor though has a special need for someone of the Cintra royal house... The spinning in the fights is essential for a Witchers fighting style; only possible with the super human speed and reflexes. Developed to overcome several species of monsters that attack in hordes and groups from all sides (nekker, ghouls, drowners) and to out match very powerfull, fast species (vampires, strigae) it mkes it hard for the opponent to get targeting on the Witcher. You are very right with the timelines/storylines. Some subtitles with simple year numbers and locations would have been helpful for newcomers.

The timeline and way it was played was very poorly thought out. Not everyone is aware of this story. I had not even heard of it until this thread started, and I had seen a few swords that were witcher styled previously bu had no interest in them. I like the series but Holgs backgrounds and explanations? The show portrays the Nilfgaard as evil. Simple. Some self appointed expert chiming in telling us that they are not evil, when they clearly are,or that the spinning is essential to the fighting blah blah blah. Ok Holg. Thought you were banned anyway.

I was just trying to help and give some explanation, so sorry!

Just very odd that your grammar is good as though it was written by one who had a very good understanding of the grammar such as,oh let us say Holg. Then it suffers like it was written by someone that has a limited understanding of English grammar, like Dandelion, but inconsistent in that structure as though it was written by someone with a very good understanding, pretending to be someone with a poor understanding. Very noticeable lately. I was not insulting you either. I have a very direct method of insulting someone intentionally. Sarcasm and skepticism may be relevant here, but there were definitely no insults.

As a fan of the book series, the netflix series was, as is most things television today, passe at best. I felt that the lead actor's performance was compelling, and the nilfgard mage (fringilla I believe).
The rest felt very forced for the most part, the fight sequences were fairly decent. Dandelion is right about the spinning in terms of the lore. Though not an expert by any measure. It doesn't feel like it could be the next Game of Thrones, the book series definitely didn't match up to the Song of Ice and Fire saga.

Come on Pvsampson, Dandelion was honest with us right from the start by telling us who she was. If she was Holg why would he draw attention to himself by telling us that. I spotted Holg pretty quick when he snuck back in before. I'm not seeing it in Dandelion so lets give her the benefit of the doubt. If he/she slips up we'll spot it.
