I just found out Darksword Armory has seized a bunch of Indian made knockoff swords and are selling them to benefit a local animal shelter. They say they tested them and say they are of comparable construction and flexibility to Windlass and the like, but apparently are not subject to any warranty because they are knockoffs. I am seriously considering getting the knockoff two handed viking sword, and was wondering if any of you thought it would be a good or terrible idea. Oh, important point. They are all $150 and 185 with sharpening. I really want a two handed fantasy viking sword after watching The 13th Warrior(awful awesome movie).

Not worth the risk, how did they "seize" a shipment of fakes? They are not the police, I guess if u want a knock off dsa 2h viking it might be ok to hang on a wall

They "seized" a shipment of "knockoffs"? How? They intercepted a private courier and just took it? Was law enforcement involved? Because I get the feeling, if law enforcement was involved, they wouldn't have gotten to keep (never mind sell) the evidence. Well, "evidence of what?" would be another fair question. How can DSA simply say these are "knockoffs" of their uh...copyright, I guess? Anyway, exactly what case do they even have here? Just...what? How? No, really...what? The cynic in me suspects there is a partnership with an importer that yielded unsatisfactory product, which DSA was probably reimbursed for but kept and are now selling for pennies on the dollar, anyway, with the caveat, "these are knockoffs" to protect their brand. But really, what? |

Jussi posted some info of a shipload with such swords.
DSA then the gave this explanation.
A possible source of the thin tang stuff.
But this all is very dubious.

I think they say it was part of a court settlement from a lawsuit against the knockoff forge. I've only had one experience with DSA and it was extremely positive, but that doesn't change the confirmed cases of poor construction and sketchiness. If I do decide to get it, I'll be sure to tell you guys all about the experience. They are really really not expensive, like, Deepeeka price. Therefore I won't be too out of luck if it goes sour, and everyone will know to stay away. I'm still thinking on it though. Take a risk, or get me some better fitting Viking clothing. Without more info it's a somewhat difficult choice.

Shipments of knockoffs of nearly everything are arrested very often here in Europe.

Just looked all over Deepeeka's official catalogue. If they officially made two handed "viking" swords, they don't anymore. I'm heavily in thought about taking one for the team. If it sucks, you guys know to stay away. If it is decent, I get an acceptable budget sword. If it's great, you guys know where to get a great deal. Three ways to win, if I want to look at it that way.

Don’t feel dumb, you didn’t know! Deepeeka’s stuff isn’t the highest quality, but it’s affordable and the last time I checked they stand behind their products. They originally had fake watermarks on them according to the story, but DSA say they filed them all down prior to putting them on sale. That's if the story is true. There is no hard evidence either way and enough circumstance evidence do go either way as well. |

There are reviews around if you see something of theirs that you like online. Lol that just an expression I use a lot when I am completely surprised. Honestly, the only thing really wrong with Deepeeka weapons that I've heard is they are way too heavy. I have a Deepeeka helmet and it's a really nice budget piece, just a bit too wide for me( it's a Viking spectacle helmet and the eye holds are a tad too far apart). Honestly, I am planning on eventually getting a Deepeeka Viking sword precisely because they are so heavy and cheap. I've been doing water exercises and am fixing to join a gym near my house to work out, and a heavy, fairly durable sword will be great to help me practice and get even stronger with swords. |

Afaik Deepeeka swords have no or a very soft heat treatment.
They look really well and are a bit heavy.
At least they should bend, not break.
It's not unthinkable that the source of the knockoffs is also a source of Deepeeka swords.
A german store has many display swords made of EN45, which is a hint for Deepeeka.

I bought a broadsword 6 or so years ago at King Richard’s Faire, and it is a HEAVY specimen indeed, but it’s awesome for training and has been a part of my workout regimen for several years now. I also picked up a weighted vest (some marathon runners train with them on) to simulate the weight of armor, and will speed walk with it on. I lost 75lbs using the weighted vest as part of my cardio. You could also use a bokken and wear ankle weights on your wrists until you get a heavy sword you like working out with! 😁 |

Isn’t EN-45 an equivalent steel to 9260? I mean they’re obviously not identical steels, but similar in the way 1095 and T-10 are. |
