I guess Errol Flynn wouldn't be bad with a lightsaber. A non-force swordsman would use it like an epee but with the cutting power of a longsword, but only if needed. Errol Flynn was actually crap even with the classic Hollywood epees. He was a very athletic and charismatic performer, yes, but couldn't fence to save his life - there's a reason why waving a sword around at random with great energy and speed but no real point or purpose, making a show of apparent athleticism to disguise an absence of skill, is called "flynning".

Reading through a few threads in the sword training section the consensus seems to be that technique and skill aren't as important as athleticism, on that basis Mr. Flynn ought to be the epitome. Ah well so much the better.

Yes indeed, the point of "flynning" is to excite the movie going public by wildly swinging impossibly light and historically unrealistic epee with rapier guards (and calling them rapier) in dynamic, showy movement. The audience ate it up, along with their popcorn.

You forgot the German "Degen", a light (hehe) rapier! Those stage weapons were normal swords here.

Don’t talk badly about my man. In his day I preferred him to Wayne, or maybe it was just the rolls that he played. At the time I knew little of sword play.
I have not seen it mentioned nor knowing much about light sabres, I would say carrying a pocket full of batteries would be all important, a charger may not be available. Hehe

That gives the words: "I sense a disturbance in the force" a new meaning!

I did spend some time with Randolph Scott, whom I found an interesting sort but he wasn’t into sword play.
