Shootermike, thanks for the correction. I knew 1350 was a broad guess, turns out I'm off by about 50 years then ;D. Oh well, learned something new! Longsword, your longsword (that slides off the tounge stangely...) would be appropriate for this type of integral suspension brian's been doing Brian - you know my usual response to your work and nothing's changed - you've got some insane skills both in manufacture as well as in art. Keep up the phenominal work, you're making everyone extatic ;D!

Holy mother of god... Brian, I don't know what more to say my friend, but keep it up! It's not that you're really getting "better" (I think you're already at the top lol) it's that each piece of work you make is just getting more and more original. Your pieces really have their own distinct personality, and I applaude you for that. +1 as always, for my favorite scabbard maker ;D! edit: Yikes, you'll have to wait an hour, I owe RW one first

I want a western sword now, just so I can get one of these beautiful works of art.
Great work, I love the subtle outline detail tooling.

WOW.... Just WOW. I am just about speechless. I knew it was gonna be a beauty... But just... WOW. How does it get any better? How are you gonna top THAT!? Heh, heh, heh. It looks like it was transported from a cutler's shop in 1200 Europe somewhere.

Thank you gentlmen (& ladies), you're too kind. I'm not sure how I'm going to top it either.

Handmade scabbards are extremely satisfying work, and when I finish one I can't help but think "man, that is really cool looking!". The worst part of it is, I have to come to the realization that it isn't mine, and I have to ship it off to probably never see it again in person. Every scabbard I do has some heart & soul in it, and that is hard to let go. But, the money is good too

Hey brian great work!
Question though - it looks like the first half of the belt (the short side not the long side) is a bit shorter than normal - is this ok? Does it work? I've never had to build a suspension so this is an honest question.

Hey brian great work! Question though - it looks like the first half of the belt (the short side not the long side) is a bit shorter than normal - is this ok? Does it work? I've never had to build a suspension so this is an honest question. It's roughly 4" from the scabbard. It works perfectly. It's really a preference to which side of the waist you want to 'connect' the two halves together, and let the excess hang. Mike and I decided to do each version of this to see which one works better. To me it really seems to work the same, and both are very functional. In fact, I prefer the thong over the buckle.

Sorry to be "late to the party" in praising this one, especially since it's my scabbard. I think this one is the best looking yet. On the first two, I told Brian just how I wanted them. On this one, he talked me into letting him do what he thought was best, and then surprise me. As far as I am concerned, this is the best approach. Any more scabbards I have made will go like this: "Hey Brian, here's this cool sword. Will you make me a beautiful 1?00s scabbard for it? Pick the colors and other details that look best to you, please." Then I will just sit back and wait for a pleasant surprise, kinda like when I was a kid at Christmas. ;D

I'm really thinking out of the box for the 1557 scabbard. Being one of the more "look & see me" scabbards, I'm really putting a lot of thought into the colors, and a few more lines/curves perhaps.
