I regularly get my butt kicked by women at kendo.... the sensei of my iaido sensei in Sydney is a woman, the sensei of my iaido sensei in perth is a woman. Who cares about gender as long as they are serious about swords.

Yeah, Facebook can get like that. Not my favorite place to spend time.

Maybe there is more females on SFI?
Most sword collecting females I have met in real life usually don't make an online presence about their sword hobbies very often, and even less so for the females who practice martial arts

no matter what a screen name is, everyone on the internet is just a vaguely person-shaped blob unless I've met them offline. In other words, you're all the prettiest princess to me.
If they join I hope they have fun. If they don't, I hope it's because they don't really want to talk swords and not because they were weirded out by weird people who like to talk about swords.

Yay im a pretty princess 😎 But on why there isn't a bigger female presence, I'm assuming it's a mix of your guesses

Oh, I see, never been there. There was one sword forum I forget which, that came up in a search but my browser said it was an attack site and my antivirus came up with "Threat blocked." I think that's SFI, 'cause the same happens to me when I follow a link there. Maybe it's their settings or my settings, either way, that's a no-go for me.

It's a perfectly safe site, something just went wonky last year (or maybe earlier this year?) where it and a few other sword sites would redirect to an ad site basically.

I don't come on here looking for love. If your friends come on here and state in their bio that they are female I won't treat them any differently than if they list themselves as a male. It's their call if they want to make their gender public info on here.
My opinion on people has never been decided solely on gender, race, creed, age or any of that stuff. It's influenced by demeanor and the manner in which they conduct themselves. Simply put, personality is what largely impacts my opinion of someone.
If your friend is a 60 year old Muslim Portugese woman living in Indonesia who likes viking swords I am going to talk about her interest in Viking swords and which ones she likes and owns.

You might want to double-check your antivirus software Jordan, because when I went there I got two warnings, one saying the site was infected with malware and the some other warning too (I forgot what). It never hurts to grab an update and run a deep scan just to be safe.

I also get a malware infection warning at SFI. My AV blocks the site completely.

I can access SFI perfectly fine on my phone and laptop with no issues for the last 3 years. You could try whitelisting the site if it's possible. Quite a good bit of info on there.

My AV also blocks SFI on and off. I think it has to do with the cookies that stores details like last post read and so forth. But not 100% certain so when I need to check something on SFI, I do it via my AV sandbox

SFI is setting off alarms because it has been listed in a common security database as potentially malicious.
Most browsers and integrated security apps (firewalls/AV etc) check a site in that database when the user tries to access the site. If an entry is found it triggers the warning, the wording of which will vary according to the software giving it. You might get more than one if using security apps, as well as the browser itself.
The problem arose because SFI (and many other forums around the same time) got a dodgy version of a little bit of the forum software. That code detects connections coming from a google search result, and redirects the browser to a malware site (myfilestore). It only does that on the first attempt to load the page though; trying the link a second time will work properly and go to SFI.
That went on for a while and then SFI got listed in the database because of it.
So now it has those two issues. They need to update the forum software really, to get rid of that bit of dodgy code.
I've still been visiting there throughout the above and have not detected any other bad activity.
To prevent the malware site being able to load if I use a google search link that goes to SFI, I added the following lines to my hosts file in Windows:
0.0.0.0 myfilestore.com 0.0.0.0 www.myfilestore.com
That way if the redirect happens, the browser just displays a page not found error. Then I click 'back' and click the search link again, which now loads SFI properly. The 'net has instructions on how to edit a hosts file for whatever OS you use. It's dead easy.

just joined tonight. Im new to collecting, but if I run into trouble I'll point them out for the administrators. weapons in general should be a hobby for everyone to collect and try out. Though I do not expect people to go full white knight and go and look like fools themselves. I'll just be one of the guys.

Admittedly, swords and sword fighting is traditionally a male domain, but I don't have a problem with a woman wielding a sword. I find it quite nice, actually. I do have a couple of female friends that may like to be on here. They've had a look but been intimidated by the complete male dominance and were worried that they'd get the usual come-on messages and harassment from guys trying to tap off. If I invited them here, would you be knightly and nice to them? It's going to upset me if they get the same old messages and they tell me about it. Can I trust you guys to be nice and respectful if a couple of women come on the forum? They've both got their own guys, messaging them asking for dates is going to be taken offence with. Seriously, would you treat them as friends and not potential dates? For years we have had females on this forum and from what I remember they were treated with respect. The male members were very helpful and answered their questions. It was almost funny how fast they would help the females out. It is sad that your friends worry that they are going to get come-on message and harassment here. Usually sword forums members follow the old codes of honor and if someone does harass them, this rest of us will come to their aid. Years ago there was a female that was going to leave because she had some problems with someone on the FB group and he was going to oust her out about something on here. We all stood up for her and wanted that bully to be kick out of here. I host cutting parties and females come to them and they are treated no different for the guys. Now after reading you post I kind of taken a little offense of you. It's like you are assuming that we are sexual predators and talking down to us like we are children. This forum is over ten years old and we know how to treat women with respect and we don't need you or anybody else talking to us like some horny $emprini teenage boys
