This is the thread for the Bestiary: Once Ramses1079 and the other contributors start to compile their lists of creatures/monsters and posts it, anyone else can suggest additions. At a reasonable interval, I'll put them in alphabetical order. This way the contributors can just worry about their contributions and I'll take care of the maintainance.
I'd also recommend a template/format be designed so that all the contributors are working with a similar framework.
The template should contain, name of creature, physical description, alignment if appropriate, special abilities, how/where they live, fight and a level of intelligence (nothing fancy, just whether they have human/elf etc intelligence, greater or less.

Thanks D.S!! Sure Leviathan, the more the merrier....just keep it to D.S's format idea, it's JUST like the way the Monstrous Manuals in D&D are organized. I can start off with an easy one (not exactly alphabetic, but you offered š)
Tundra Yeti
Height: 6.5-8ft
Weight: 280-400lbs (males generally bigger than females)
Strength: High for a humanoid, stronger for "warriors"
Intelligence: Low
Language: Grunts, hand gestures, growling
Special Abilities: None
Special Defenses: Natural Resistance to frigid climates and some cold-based attacks
Appearance and Rarity: Standing much taller than the most average of humanoids, Yeti are muscular to lean in build, depending on the creatures role in their "society/tribe" and covered from head to toe in thick, course, white fur. Their faces are almost apish in appearance , and their hands and feet are much larger than other humanoids.....having opposable thumbs allow them to wield anything from a crude knife made from the teeth of Arctic Tigers (a predatory rival in the frozen wastelands) for skinning, or equally crude spears taken from the war-like barbarians/Northmen......also rivals in the icey tundra. Usually seen in hunting parties of 10-12 males, while the females stay with the young and protect the food supply from the constant threat of the above mentioned enemies, a tribe of Yeti can consist of upwards of 50 members (included are old, young, male, female, a small group of at least 20 "skilled" fighters, and a chieftain. Possessing no magical abilities of their own, other than a natural resistance to cold, and cold-based attacks, tribes of Yeti will often be seen in the employ of frost giants, smaller white dragons--who"allow" them to bring it food and treasure as homage, or a wizard/shaman who will dominate their low intellect with ease. Despite their slow minds, they are savage enough fighters when motivated by fear or to protect their young.
Not "perfect" (or a finished product by ANY means) but how do you guys like this to start with? I used a relatively basic creature we've all heard of, but with no magic/psionics, special abilities or attacks, and a primal, primitive "society." From here on it gets a wee bit more complicated, but start in the shallow end before learning cliff diving!

Quill hound Height: 100cm at shoulders Weight: 90kg Strength: comparable to a large predatory animal e.g. wolf, lion Intelligence: dog like Language: howling, barking, growling Special Abilities: None Special Defenses: None Appearance and Rarity: Fairly common in the wild and also domesticated for use as a hunting aide, attack dog and for blood sports. Appears as a heavily muscled dog like beast with canine tusks. Short bristly fur covers the body and is longer at the scruff. Long quills on the scruff and shoulders provide defense from predators and rivals. The general body plan is short and stocky, made for short bursts of speed to overwhelm prey by surprise I just like to sketch and Im not particularly good at the finer details of lore so feel free to plug this beast into whatever else you feel is appropriate for the world building

armourdillo (ok, fine, armordillo for the Americans)
Height: 2ft
length: 4 ft
diameter 2.5 -3 ft
Weight: 60 lbs for young specimens, up to 300 lbs+
Strength: immense
Intelligence: low, slightly above armadillo
Language: animal noises
Special Abilities: eats and digest metal and ore, when in extreme can trough porcupine-like metal spikes, takes time to regrow, great digger (even through stone)
Special Defenses: roll-into-ball, thick metal shell, quite heat resistant
Appearance:a large armadillo with a metal shell, metal claws, metal spiked tail
Rarity: found only in areas with large amounts of scrap metal or rich ore (battlefields)
notes: the metal shell is in a special crystalline (and alloyed based on its diet) structure that is flexible but extremely hard and does not felt until about 3 times the melting point of steel, and is mildly toxic. it is thus sought for its special metallurgical properties by skill artisans. the empire farms them and calls them vitarmatura (living armour). though it is diffuclt to remove the armour from them while living, it is not lethal and possible by skilled mages
Habits: nocturnal, solitary, family groups with young, mammal

It could really be a ball-buster to guys trying to mine ore!! Good submission Ash!

I had a bit of free time so i did quick drawings of the tundra yeti and armourdillo. The yeti. Not much to say as the design is pretty straightforward The armourdillo. Basically a beefed up version of an actual armadillo. The mouthparts are changed to accomodate a diet of ore; and probably can give one hell of a bite. The throwing spines fold back when not in use so that they do not impede burrowing

I thought of it more as a shortcut for mining ore: armourdillo eats ore, grows metal shell, gets "sheared" ta-da, perhaps the foundation for this the empires advanced metal-working

I'm working on a couple of "harder" entries for the beastiary, like a Cambion, and if there's a "Lich King" with a kingdom of undead we're gonna need a SLEW of "those" entries......i.e Ghouls, ghasts, poltergeists, shades, maybe a variation of the Deatheaters from the H. Potter series, so that we DON`T make EVERYTHING from D&D. Gotta mix it up sometimes. Like Orcs from D&D aren't as exciting per se, BUT the Uruk-hi from LOTR are pretty dang tough! Variety is the spice of life.....so a variety in the Bestiary keeps things from getting STALE! Again, great entry Ash š (Also there's a "Steel Wool" joke in there about your armourdillo I'm leaving alone lol)

Don't let Wizards of the Coast see this or they'll try and copyright your pics/our ideas for their own š³

Aldo if they were more "millipede-ish" they'd have neigh impenetrable "scale armor" as natural. Good submission. P.S .I hear they taste like chicken š

Medusozua Zeppelinus - giant flying jellyfish lenght/height etc.: 1 mile Weight: unknown, always flies away with scale. in symbiosis with Felis Moorcockius - winged cat Swarms of them live in the Jellyfish, hunting to feed certain algae which produce hydrogen for flying. Can be domesticated. Cabins can be attached: You need to catch a young one for this, later a full grown exemplar can carry a ship.

Gulo Oktopodis - eight-legged wolverine A wolverine looking like a long weasel in the size of two tigers strung together, with 8 legs. One of the biggest predators in the badlands. A pack of them can hunt down a giant centipede! Mix the 3 pictures in your imagination:
