Some have nice wide blades but are single handers. The longer handles have narrower blades.
Still find it odd that not all european sword makers do not make an Albion Great Sword/Baron type XIIa wide blade base sword.

I have waited a long time to update this thread. I just made a deal with the Blade Trade Master (Stormmaster) for my first medieval sword. My first medieval sword is ................ A Jeffrey Robinson Crusader Excalibur with a custom scabbard!!!!!! It was originally commissioned and owned by former SBG Global Moderator, Bill Swiger. starting off with a Jeff Robinson is gonna spoil you. It’s all downhill from here man. 😂😂😂😂

I figure to cut costs, I could hang actual size photos of Verity's swords in their display cases next to the Excalibur. Seriously, after I pay off the Excalibur, need an Albion Baron on one side of the Excalibur and an Albion Alexandria on the other side, then ......yeah.

Haha! I knew Verity got the Shield Maiden. I should have bet Fald on that one!
Storm - As back up sword funding, I am selling stuff that is just setting around, that will more than pay the sword off.

Well the fact I kept remarking on the thread, and have been belly-aching about wanting either a Shieldmaiden or a Suttles/Jia Sountaka for YEARS, should have been a dead giveaway. That would have been a sandbagged bet! 😝

Everyone needs one of those. 🤤🤤🤤🤤 Blade Runner, my Atrim XIIa.4 is peened. And if you find one and it isn’t, send it to TomK for an overhaul. 😏

Wait guys, I am still adding to the above post! LOL! Storm - I have a display in my head similar to the one below. The Excalibur will be the center piece with other war swords on either side of it. It's such a turn on to see a blade base wider than than the grip! LOL! Verity's Sword Display Verity - As always, thanks for your expertise. ....of course this does not include katanas nor antiques or fantasy/movie swords.

Found this illustration in an article on the DSA site. From the article bibliography, it must originate from an Oakeshott book or a book about Oakeshott. Noticed the no. 8 sword guard is shapped and colored like the JR Excalibur sword guard also shown below. It is my favorite shape for a sword guard. Therefore, does that mean that the Excalibur guard shape is historical or historically "plausable"?

Only comment on your lists... and mind you take this all with a grain of salt as it’s your collection and you do what you want!
1.) not sure you want the VA war sword if you get an Atrim XIIa.4 (unless it is just another nice sword to have...) The handling is different enough on those despite based on the same design that they are effectively both the “same sword” but without the mirrored performance to be a cutter/case queen pair like your Albion Baron / Great Sword pair are. You won’t have issues looking at and cutting with the XIIa.4... scotch Brite and oil will take out any cutting scuffs. I’ve cut with mine SO much and a scotch Brite makes any cutting evidence completely disappear.
3.) Albion Baron / great sword sword... if you are doing display / cutter pairs... why not a CF Winter Warden (for maximum beauty) and great sword as a pair vs the Baron.? (Totally fine if the WW doesn’t “do it” for you but... if price is a concern and you consider point 1, then that makes up for the price diff.

Also - just a comment on the 'modern' ATrims. If anyone gets the nut to come loose on one of those, I want to see how badly they've destroyed the blade to do so. Peening does have a certain aesthetic appeal, but from a functional standpoint, I'm very skeptical if a modern ATrim has had a nut/thread failure of any kind.

I love critiques and debating the pros and cons of inanimate objects. Especially with those, who's intent is to help me maximize my collection cash. In fact, timing of your comments is "spooky". I was thinking as I made the new list, that I would really like a Baron, Alexander, and Mercenary as uitlitarian versions and have other versions with "upgraded" hilts. Therefore, by the time I had finished the list, it had already changed. Like that term, cutter/case queen pair.LOL! .....reminds me of the term "trailer queen" for Harley's/custom motorcycles.
