Trying to research historical medieval swords with unique and uncommon hilts (crossguards and pommels). Note: I think this site needs a sticky thread(s) like this.
Does anyone know of the following:
1. Threads on this site of historical medieval sword pics and descriptions; and or
2. Websites with pics and descriptions of historical medieval swords; and or
3. Publications with pics and descriptions of historical medieval swords.
Thanks for any info.

Paul and me have been working on such a thing for the main site but its difficult because not many pics are public domain. What I have been working on so far is a list of reproductions that are classified by blade typology as well as hilt family and guard and pommel typology. Pretty much a one stop for anything you'd want as far as what is historical on the modern market. Its been taking some time for me to poperly finish but as soonas i get it to Paul and he works it to the main site we should have a pretry sweet buyers guide to historical reproductions set up. Youre best bet as far as your own collection of publications would be to get Oakeshott's books which are all available on Amazon for around or under $20 a book.

Keeping with a "Swords of Kings" theme for my medieval collection, I continue to research historical swords of kings and war swords.
If anyone has pics/descriptions of historical swords of kings/leaders/unique war swords, please share. Thanks!

If you check Abebooks you can find a few of Oakshotts books for under $5. Otherwise Amazon has his "Records" and a few collections from various museums in book form.

theo - Thanks, I will look that up.
Storm - Yes, like that one or Charlemagne sword, Joyeuse.
Edel - Thanks. E books like that, is exactly what I was looking for so I can easily post pics from it to threads on this forum. Got some great reading to do. Thanks again. Yes, I remember the photos of your Edward III sword in this thread. It was a nice version.
I think I will start another thread about this research.
