I've had a PTR-91 for a few years now, but I have so few places to fire it. My state is actually very "gun-friendly" but I don't know anyone who has enough land to shoot it on. All the indoor ranges around can't handle .308's so I kinda bumming. Anyone have similar tales of woe?? Didnt know you had one. I have owned an actual HK 91 for over 15 years (pre-ban original). Had to have one after the Robert De Niro /Al Pacino movie, "Heat" came out. I love the positive round ejection. Never has jammed on me. Very accurate. Still want an actual HK claw scope mount and bi-pod. But actual HK parts are mega expensive. Had my own personal shooting range for decades. Now that I don't, I just take it out, oil it and put it back. When our child started walking around, I put most of my weapons away. I like the .308 far better than the .223. Also have an original Colt AR-15 "government carbine" (not a sporter), "shorty" (16 inch barrel with telescoping stock) in .223. The HK design is far superior than the M-16/AR-15. Don't get me wrong, I love it but, we all know the father of the M-16, Stoner, yeah Eugene Stoner, designed a slim and long gas tube. Which is a flaw. So much a flaw that a forward assist, was added. My original has never jammed, but I keep it mega clean. I have had parts guns jam and jam. I also own or owned aks and an original Israeli UZI. In my own experience I have seen that besides the gas tube/port issue, the stamped metal receivers of the HKs, aks and uzi never jam, but the cast or milled receivers (like the ars) can and do. Having said all that, I would like to get a .300 upper with bull barrel, for my Colt Ar and really want the Master Key 12 gauge shotgun attachment for it (ever since I saw Al Pacino's m-16 grenade launcher in Scarface, as a kid) however it's a class III item. .....and having said all that, over the years, I have known families and individuals, (even in law enforcement), that have had accidental discharges, that caused the deaths of 4 children and one adult male (all separate and unrelated incidences). Those families went through and are still enduring HELL years later. It taught me that, the more a gun is handled, the odds increase of an accidental discharge. Therefore, most of my guns and ammo are separated and stored/locked away. Our child is now living off campus at a college university. I wanted to get her and train her for a S&W j frame 442. However, my wife said no way after seeing what others families have endured due to a child lost to accidental discharge...and to be honest, I feel the same way. So, I actually spent three times the cost of the 442 and bought her and trained her for the Taser X2 Defender, two shot taser gun. When she is older and more mature, I will give her and train her for an actual firearm (unless they come out with a semi auto multi shot Taser). Consensus regarding the film Heat bank robbery scenes is that the Pacino gun was not an HK 91 but an FNC (in .223). Seizemore's Galil also a 223. The short barrel of the military FNC fools us. As to big bore shooting in NH, lots of places to shoot. lmgtfy.com/?q=nh+public+high+power+rifle+rangesThere had been a public range up by Danvers MA that I had visited decades ago. Limited to its 100 yd but usuable for sighting, plinking etc. Can't remember the exact location/name but it was open, as long as a free permit applied for through the parks department. I sent my sporterized 03-A3 off to Wisconsin years ago (from MA) to give it a place to shoot more readily. Went south instead of north from MA but don't bother with the long guns down here. Not much of a woodsman or sniper (plinker) anymore. I do miss the '06 sometimes but the reality of the 308 here to stay was apparent back in the M14 years. I had to laugh at one visit to a store in the '90s when confronted with not one round of '06 but a rack of options for 7x57 (a carbine I had just sold and adored). '06 used to be _the_ round with the most availability as far as loads (80-220 +- grains back in the day).

Didn't fool me. I know those guns as well. In the movie, actor Val Kilmer uses a HK 91.

Yeah thanks Blade, I found that out just recently, but the Gun Club I joined right over the border in Maine allows it too....thanks for looking though 😁 Oh and here:https://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/home.asp ANYONE looking for H&K parts or "clone" parts, this websites for you!
Shogun---I've heard mixed reviews on the CETME, so that's why I settled on the PTR-91...... "basically" the same gun.....same firing mechanics......a little less $$$ which was also a deciding factor! Highly recommended!

Highly recommended! I'd much prefer the PTR-91. The last time I looked into it (which, admittedly was something like 10 years ago), the CETME was about half the price of the PTR-91, but the CETME was a crap shoot then as well. I just wasn't in a position where I could afford a $1200 rifle at the time.

Same here, but I stumbled across a $1275 unsecured loan that someone left laying on the ground, so I picked it up......dusted it off, and bought my PTR-91. Of course then I was treated to rounds of "why didn't you just save it up for a "real" H&K" by several of my old workmates from DHS! Jerks 😏Like you said, it's a gamble with the CETME. I've seen 50/50 videos on YouTube, half claim it's a phenomenal, unbeatable "battle rifle," while the other 1/2 say: "when I pulled the trigger, the entire rifle fell apart." Of course I'm slightly exaggerating that last part, but the other 50% absolutely hated the CETME. Que sera sera!

Gee, 4 pages on .308, and not a single mention of my favorite back-porch plinker. Can't any of you guys afford an FAL? As far as .50 cal goes, BMG is fun, but for economy I like black powder muzzleloaders. I've got a custom 42" barrel .58 I built on a T/C stock and lock that a friend of mine calls my "If you can see it you can kill it rifle".
