Full intent is possible with the right gear, and apart from a few broken fingers nobody has been hurt very badly in tens of thousands of bouts worldwide for many years now. HEMA has a far better track record than BON. With light or no gear, you have to pull your blows. But again the injury record is negligible from this type of fighting. Of course both parties have to accept that one can get seriously hurt. Orthopedic strains are the most common, not injury from sword simulators. But a simulator can still hurt or kill you in the right circumstances. So can someone tackling you in rugby or American football though. It's something that goes with the territory. There's no risk-free sword play anymore than there's risk free mountain biking.
If you type "martial challenge sword" into youtube a number of examples come up. It's not that big of a deal. Just lots of fun and a good way to clear the air over this kind of dispute.
Surely folks in JSA have full speed sparring. I know they have their own type of heavy gear.
I'm fully expecting a good fight out of this. I can, with planning, travel to many places. And I always like to include sparring in my tourism. If I do die to the ancient arts of Musashi, I die happy. Get into Valhalla for sure.

I mean, don't let me stop you. Issue challenges to all sundry if you like, I'm just pointing out that you're likely to be operating under very different constraints. Hopefully you don't find out.

Sorry, but this is going in the general direction of Commedia dell'Arte: Cosmoline-the-warrior-monk trying to challenge Jammer-the-bigmouth-samurai to establish who's 'da best'. Two robes will be ready for washer & dryer. Soon. In the background SBG members are holding their breath, waiting for the scene to change.

What's wrong with you people? This is the *BEST PART* of sword fighting! I just cleaned my tunic too.
Finding out the differences between styles is the point. As far as constraints, in my full kit I've taken full force longsword strikes without issue. My helmet is able to absorb a mordschlag. My sword was tested by getting full force blows from a Dane axe. I trust my gear and my training. It would be fascinating to see the two approaches compared at speed.
If Jammer doesn't take me up, does anyone else want to? It will be a kettle of fun.

I hope not. I'm getting all excited! VALHALLA! Then pizza afterwards. Seriously though, I have long wanted to do some honest sparring with JSA folks. So anyone interested do PM me. I've got loaner gear.

What I'm suggesting isn't illegal. It's just sparring between styles. I think it would be a good way to both test and demonstrate. Blackfencer has some new bind-simulator swords that might actually make plastic viable if steel is a concern. Though I'm not holding out too much hope.
