The falchion is interesting though I certainly share your feelings regarding the blackened steel. I don't know why Cold Steel and now Windlass tend towards that but oh well.

At a guess, I imagine it's because it's cheaper than the typical mirror polish you see on the rest of their swords, but I could be wrong. From a more practical standpoint, if done right, the blackening helps a sword resist rust, which can crop up quite often if the sword has to change climate zones to reach you.

Interesting to see that Windlass has jumped onto the dark stone washed blade thing that is so popular with knives these days. It actually looks pretty cool I think. Essentially they are forcing a patina with something like FeCl or cold bluing solution and then tumbling it with ceramic finish to give it the mottled look. The problem is the patina is not durable and will rub off where it's contacting the inside of the scabbard (not to mention when cutting). Of course they could be doing a more resilient coating, rather than patina... I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The more I look at the specs on this new falchion the more I want it... I have half of the money for it and despite the blackened metal something about that look clicks with me. Plus I was already looking at a buckler that happened to be blackened as well.
Is there a more precise release date yet? April is all it says on that site.

Looks like John Clements made some videos with the Battlecry line. Here is the Agincourt:

He has another video cutting sugarcane in his FB, though it might be set to private/friends only

MRL had a good number of promo videos on their fb page for a few Battlecry weapons, including the Hattin Falchion which is the one I liked haha.

Ah, crap. I mixed up the threads. I guess that's what happens when I don't pay attention to what I'm browsing; all I saw were "blackened", "falchion", and then the mention of "Cold Steel" at the top of the page, so it all just kinda ran together. Doesn't help that there's been a lot of wondering about Cold Steel's new messer over in the thread about their 2016 lineup.

No worries at all my friend. That messer looks interesting itself so I certainly am fine with being shown it.

Yeah, I like the seax too. Too bad the Agincourt has such a short blade.

I don’t consider Agincourt’s blade excessively short for a sword of that type. Why not consider the Bosworth?

I liked the sax as well until I saw the blade length. I'd rather have the long one.

I received an email today from Windlass about this line, and I'm quite intrigued. I know the blackened look is not for everyone but I dig that stonewash. I actually don't own any euros/medievals and was thinking one of these might make a good starter.
Does anybody own one yet? Very interested in weight distribution and handling. Looks like they'd make some great cutters.

Yes I really am looking forward to all of the products all being released so we can get a look from a users point of view. I personally like the seax and the falchion from this line up and if they can get good user reviews I might have to add them to the collection. On a side note 2016 is looking like a good year for sword enthusiast with all the new product launches.

Not a fan of this type of finishing on swords, but the buckler looks amazing in my opinion. Even though it seems like the most over priced item in this product line

Nice, so these are from the Battlecry line MRL announced in their 138 catalogue. Still no info on MRL's site but its cool to finally see what these swords will look like. Here's the announcement of the Battle Cry Line also introducing John Clements who is apparently partnering with MRL to design this line of swords. From the panel in the #138 catalogue page 2c, I went and bought the Seax just to get a feel for how these are gonna be. Ill be posting review when i get it and test it. its currently en route from Georgia so it'll be here soon.

That Agincourt looks great and with defined lines too. Would like to know what Mr. Clements has done with the distal taper. And I hope that finish is not etched but sprayed on, so it can be removed. I hear they used the heating method to get the color, i dont mind a blackened style but if there was more than one option that'd be cool.
