Does horn count as bone? It isn't always chopped from a dead cow ya know!
Hmmm use something very dark IMO. Red really wouldn't suit this I don't think. Something dark or light but nothing medium, it's a sword of contrast and immediacy, not a quiet subtle sword. Dark red might be swell. I don't suppose any trees come with bluish wood? Make it ocean colored!

Brenno, why don't you do something like an avar sabre hilt......like a much simpler version of the one given to Charlemagne. That way you could use your globular pommel and avoid having to tie that Dao lacing. www.imperialweapons.com/swords/iberia/sh2288.htmlDan

A quick little photoshop mockup. Use the blackwood, carve a nice heron and wala! Dan

Yeah, I think that a simple guard will suit this scimitar better. Nothing too fancy, maybe something like this: or this:

Which one? The first one is made by Simon Fearnhamm. His other work may be found here: www.raven-armoury.co.uk/And the second one is one of Jody's. Those blades are kinda pricey. I'm sure brotherbanzai would do the same for much less. Ain't that right mate? ;D

You can get a lot of Jody's stuff for only $1200, less even. That is cheap! If you saw what goes into wax casting you'd understand. It's complicated, and the wax can break and need redoing over. You can see a brief explanation of the process hereAlso guys, I think I'm going to stick with the cutlass style guard, it really follows the curves of the sword. I have ground it down a bit more, and taken over an ounce off it. I like dans suggestion of the Heron carved on the blackwood, and I'd try to put some swirly water in the carving too to tie in the lines of the sword. Depending how well the sanding of the guard goes the hilt will probably be blued, with the black grip. The blade will stay shiny.

Absolutely breathtaking guard, Brenno. Sounds like you've got it pretty planned out (and it sounds fantastic), so I'll keep any and all suggestions to myself on this one.
A well deserved Karma.

Are you going to blue the pommel too so that it matches the guard?
Yeah, that is pretty cheap.

When I stop being a greedy sword obsessed hoarder. I have trouble letting them go, I like them. I could have a whole house full and still not want to sell them. Though I had much less trouble parting with bloodwraith blade coz it his design and I was always making it for him.
Why, which one would you want?
It's a slow process getting organised. There are some tools I need to speed up production.

I hope to. There are some super spectacular knife makers out there which kill my work. But I still hope to be able to find a marketable niche for the product I can produce. Thanks for the support.

His marketable niche is me Darky: Bren's work goes for quite a bit but is well worth it, I better not buy another weapon for the moment, I only just got the fiance's ok to buy a new computer, I think she would skin me if I asked to buy a sword on top of that. I too am waiting to see the heron done, bren may be the only person who can realise my vision of a schiav married to a sabre blade.

Design a knife and I'll give you a price. Just make it a BIG one. I won't charge any more for a 14" blade than a 7" blade. I rather make the 14" blade, as it's more along my taste and interests. A mega chopper. You may also like to reduce the price by doing what BW did; having me make the steel, and making the scales yourself. You can buy some amazing exotic scale blanks off ebay. Search for "knife scales".

Heh, I think my design counts as a mega choppa!
I would actually say Bren that making a 7" blade would be harder than a 14" blade. More precision goes into a 7" blade because it doesn't balance like a mega choppa.
