Ooo very nice curves! Well named indeed, it's graceful like the heron. I really like the little extension of the false edge, it's like the heron's crest!
I'm just gonna stare for a bit, then +1 when I recharge and wipe my drool.
You're getting better and better, this is just great stuff!

Bren: You know I love you but you are a son of a semprini, quit making me want what I can't afford. On a serious note, WHOA! I'm going to sit and drool to, I think it will look good with the fittings, any stats on this beautiful sword, now you have to carve a heron into it somewhere. Stunning, I think this will be your best, but I am biased. When you get to cutting with it make sure you use wrap cuts

any stats on this beautiful sword? Overall Length: 880mm (35") Blade:710mm (28") Weight: When finished will be 1.5kg (3lb 5oz.) POB: will be around 6.5" Cut from the usual 70 x 6mm flatbar 9260. I wanted to stamp or etch some lettering on it. Be sure I won't leave it plain. I like the idea of the grip I had drawn with the ivy vine carved into it. It could flow and curve like the whole sword. Yeah, I know you like curvey swords. I'm just making it to tease you. Nah, I love it too. It just seemed to design it's self when I started drawing. Wrap cuts: are those the one's over the shield? I think I've seen tsafa showing that somewhere. I don't know enough about fencing. It's quite blade heavy, and not super light at 1.5kg. It's gonna be great for pruning palm trees. It makes an awesome sound from swinging it - kind of like a bull roarer. Ooo very nice curves! Well named indeed, it's graceful like the heron. I really like the little extension of the false edge, it's like the heron's crest! You're getting better and better, this is just great stuff! I'm glad you like it. I'm getting pretty adventurous in the way i shape my blades. I have to like the aesthetic to stay interested. Traditional simple blades bore me now. I'm sure the history nazis would cry heresy over the spurs and cut outs, but I don't think they will hurt the handling. On the contrary I thing the main top spur could be used to pull down a shield, and the lower one to catch a blade. The top near one, well, it looks cool. Anyone reading this, please feel free to post kooky new sword concepts in my design thread: /index.cgi?board=designs&action=display&thread=3898

Lookin' good. You ought to consider selling a couple of your swords. Might get yourself a nice Mercedes.

Whoa Brenno, that's gorgeous! Everything about it looks fantastic!
Kind of a shame to put those nice, but rather ordinary hilt fittings on such a beautiful blade. Too bad we live on opposite ends of the planet, seeing as how you tend to make fantastic blades and use a stock guard and pommel and I tend to use stock blades and custom guards and pommels.

Oh dear, a partnership between Brenno and brotherbanzai would probably make this place explode. Another fine looking blade, Brenno. As usual, can't wait to see it finished.

Just a suggestion, and no pressure, but perhaps BrotherBonzai and Brenno could build a piece together and auction it?

Seth / Master - You can buy anything with money. Yes, for the right price, I'd sell you this or one of your own design.
Kid - It could happen. We'd have to sell it and split it, but we could come up with a killer blade. However BB can make his own blades, but I don't have bronze casting technology, so it's more attractive to me than him.
My problem is I want them all. I couldn't be bothered to make a blade I didn't want.

Bren: Nah, wrap cuts also referred to as tiger's rage or swirling wing in some chinese sabre combat types are entirely different to fencing wraps. With a wrap cut the blade travels around your head. I will try to explain this as best i can. Hold the blade point down with your knuckles facing in towards the body, the actual blade should be pointing to your left, if you are right handed move the sword in this position from the centre of your body to the left, around past your shoulder the blade should now be pointing behind you as the blade makes the full rotation around behind your back. As the blade comes around behind your right shoulder, pull your shoulder down and turn the blade into a horizontal cut. It is a fairly common technique with the sabre but it will make your 3 or so lb sword really dance with a really amazing cutting speed and power.
Hope I explained that well,
Bro B: Incase you read this again, did you receive my PM? I have received no reply.

That's not necessarily true. While I can make a blade and it takes me less time to do that than to make hilt fittings, I don't really enjoy grinding out blades nearly as much as I enjoy sculpting. One of the coolest things about bronze (and what originally drew me to the medium) is that if I make a mold of something I've made rather than working in direct wax, I can make more copies of it.
It would cool if you can figure a way to carry the heron motif down through the grip, maybe in the carving.
Wraith, nope didn't get it check your pm.

Where did you get those fittings Ewww.I would say make some of your own, chain drill and file out the holes for the slot in the guard, and punch and drift the one for the pommel. if your ass was not in OZ I would send you some but shipping is a bastard . blade is looking good, I would only remove the horn on the bottom, and simply make it just flare out at the base.

I like the horn. It gives it a more elegantly, aggressive look.

I have a spherical steel ball pommel I could use. And a cross is easy enough to make from steel. I like the side ring. I suppose I could try that. I could either weld it with an arc welder or silver solder. I wonder if silver solder would be strong enough. Let me get my creative juices all over it and I'll get back to you. BTW - the spur stays. hehe. Not hard for the new owner to remove. Oh, and swordboy, read back a little further.

You have to learn to put your mind into a layout state, where you can look at a peice and imagine how it should be layed out , then shaped hot to give it 3 dimensions, yet come from flat plate. When you get practiced and learn to work things that way, you can lay out ELABORATE basket hilts or another type of guard and then just work it.
