Anyone else watching the new 'Inside the Episode' shows they have been doing? Also... the one they did with the 6 guys that tapped out in the first week? Its VERY interesting. They showed some extra footage of when they rescued the guys... and each one of the guys who tapped out in that first week thought they were the first one to give up. They have NO idea how many other people are out there... which is VERY interesting... because it makes it super hard to decide how long to keep going and when to quit for the renaming 4 guys. As far as they know, everyone is still out there or a lot of them are still out there... they might be thinking everyone is doing better then them or has it better... it must have driven the last 4 guys NUTS, the not knowing. It puts a very interesting perspective on the long term survival. Humans are a VERY competitive creature by nature.... if they knew there were only 4 others left, it would encourage them to REALLY suck it up and fight on... but if things get really low and they are thinking 'There are probably still 8-9 guys around, and they are likely all better set up then me, I can't win... might as well go home.' It says next Thursday 2 of the remaining 4 will tap out... if the last two remaining are my picks Alan and Lucas, I'm going to be feeling pretty damn good about myself. ;-) I love that Alan and Lucas have DRAMATICALLY different approaches to their respective survival plans... yet both are VERY effective. Its like poker... there are many different strategies and mind sets you can use in the game and still have great results... there isn't only one way to win. Also, super interesting to hear some of the guys talking to each other while watching the episodes... talking about what was going on at that time, reacting to the video of other guys and what they did. Loving this show. :-) Should have fired a cannon each time someone tapped.

I'm thinking by the next show Lucas is going to build a Flintstones pedal car.

I've been reading this thread and really want to check out the series. Haven't had cable tv in quite awhile. Can it be accessed straight from their website? I'll look into it. I'd love the chance to try this out, even though I am no "survival expert."

Oh no Lucas... WTF. He seemed to be by FAR the best set up there for a long term stay. He was SUPER industrious... had everything he could need. Was really well set up by the time he quit. What a bummer. I always liked Alan's chances better, because he is more stable, taking the tortoise approach to the situation while Lucas was the hare... but it was working out so well for Lucas. Man. So... down to my main pick Alan... and my 'Dark Horse' Sam. Feeling pretty good about my early assessment.

Yes I was a bit bummed at Lucas dropping out, I think he just got excited to go do something new. He likely had a project idea and couldn't wait to go try it. I bet now after the fact he is sort of kicking himself, he was likely the best set up to keep going long term.
I suspect Allan is the man who lasts. He said either they come tell him it is time to go or medivac is the only way he is going. So That sort of determination along with his mellow older temperament I think will see him through.
Sam while he is stubbornly saying Nebraskan guys don't quit, I think has a lot more mental stress with expecting a baby and a young wife. However being young the money might be a motivating factor to keep him in past Allan.
I think at this point a lot has to do with luck, as in who has bad luck. Damage to shelter, lack of food, loss of critical item, etc I think is what is going to decide this.

Damage to shelter, lack of food, loss of critical item, etc I think is what is going to decide this. Lucas said he has no regrets about it... but I can't imagine how that could be true. As you say, he was the best set up for a long term stay... the best prepared for the winter there... and the one with the least pull to drive him of course. Mitch had the issue with his mother and a small child and wife. Allen has a family with small children. Sam has a young wife who is expecting their first child... all of them have something pulling on them. Lucas is young, single, no real responsibilities... and tho he took a LOT of risks with his go-do-it strategy... (As opposed to Alan's dig in and wait it out approach, which to be honest is a lot more like what I would have done. I bonded with Alan ight away, he is my age and has a lot more of my personality then anyone else.) his risks paid off! He found more stuff and was better set up then anyone there. He woke up one morning... and just decided to go. It was weird. I seriously under-estimated Mitch... and I feel bad about that. He made some big mistakes sure... but I had no idea till that last episode the strain that was on him the whole time with what his mother is going through. If it had not been for that... I think he would have gone all the way for sure. What a bad ass. Yeh... I've got Alan for the win... but I have so much admiration for Sam now as well. It looks like he is having a really hard time of it... and is just GUTTING through it with sheer force of will. Impressive. Both he and Alan have ost SO much weight. Both of them had more fat reserves on them then Mitch or Lucas did... and you see after 40+ days how they have burned threw it. Tough. I am looking forward to this last episode more then anything on TV I can remember from recent memory.

I am looking forward to this last episode more then anything on TV I can remember from recent memory. That is something the Alone series has had said about it a lot. It is TV that people who don't normally like TV have really enjoyed. Since the 1st episode I have heard a lot of people who don't normally like TV discussing how they are amazed they are looking forward to watching something. This last episode will be epic. I really am curious how they will handle the letting the winner know. Will they call on the Sat phone? Show up at the camp and say it is time to go? Pick them up along with the other person who just tapped out? Maybe even wait and extra day to make the win clear? What ever it is, I see all the last 4 guys as top tier. They all did amazing, and without access to all the footage left on the cutting room floor we will never know what all they actually went through and have to trust the production team told at least somewhat honest narrative.

Word. Yeah, the first 6 guys dropped like flies... some very questionable choices and whatnot. I was surprised and very disappointed. These last 4 guys tho... every single one of them should hold their heads up high. They did an awesome Job. Lucas just up and decided to leave... no idea why but he says it was a personal journey for him, something he wanted to do to find himself, and he got what he wanted. Once he had what he came for... he left. If that is true... then nothing but respect for him. Mitch impressed the hell out of me and I feel guilty for over-looking him from the start... considering what he had weighing on him, amazing what he did. Both he and Lucas left not because they had too... they both looked set up to go further... they left because they wanted to. They CHOSE to leave.
With Sam and Alan... I dunno... whoever taps out is likely going to be doing so because they just can't do it anymore. Those guys are TOUGH SOBs.
Like you, I can't wait to see how they handle the winning moment... do they just show up... and after the last episode they have another inside the show type episode, really looking forward to that. I really enjoyed hearing them talk about what they were thinking while stuff was going on... and seeing the footage for the first time.

Yep, the old guy wins, as it should be. Youth is way over rated.

Suho, yes you can watch it on their website I do and after you watch it you will see that a lot of them are no experts either. Gunnar, when you watched it via the website did you have to sign in via your cable provider first? That's what it is asking me to do, except I don't have one. Thanks.

I watched on the website and was never asked to sign in. Just went to the videos section and watched.
