If the SHTF, I would go with my ZT D'Capitan. As you can see in the video, I put this sword to the test with cutting two pigs heads. This is a tough sword that goes well with the styles of sword fighting I know.

Of my current swords... in a SHTF situation if I had to use and carry one of my swords...I'd go with my atrim tac saber or my wife's Fox Jian.

I use to have one of these, they're a tough and mean little Windlass.

If it has to be from my current collection, that narrows it down a whole lot.

I would go for my Brazilian cavalry sword. Its not the most effective sword I have, but it is the most practical. The blade is a good cut and thrust design - useful for both fencing and for campwork. However, its only 32 inches, so its easy to maneuver and carry around. The guard gives good hand protection. Most importantly, the grips are made of solid brass riveted to a full tang, making it one of the most indestructible swords I have.

With that in mind I'm thinking something that would be useful but not cumbersome. As much as I like swords in a shtf situation I'm going with a boom boom as a primary weapon.

My Apokatana...it feels almost indestructible if you take it in hand. Not even one of my customs or Albions gives me that intimidating feeling... Attachments:

There is something quite appealing about the zombie tools offerings. I have a de captain and really like it, it's super functional, paper cutting sharp (secondary bevel) and robust. The only reason I didn't opt for it in this thread was handling. It's not bad handeling and it has a definet weapon feel to but for a short sword it's a bit too forward balanced.

My first choice would be kingmaker... I like the balance... However if there were zombie apocalypse like walking dead scenario, probably I will take something simpler in blade geometry... Sharpening a hollow ground blade is not easy and I expect I don't have access to sharpening kit most of the time...
If I don't expect to get into a sword fight (which I have no clue how to do it and probably get killed fairly quick against trained adversary), I would bring A&A katzbalger... It is crazy chopper and would be good for personal defense against t rabid dogs :D
If I expect would get into a duel, I will take either brescia spadona or swiss saber due to its length... Most likely it would not change the result of me being cut into pieces by the other guy, but at least I can die in style :P

If it was a horde of friggin zombies I would go with either one of these. Seem like they would be up to the task of "wading in" GBS - Long reach and of substantial heft. A true battlefield weapon Custom Arms and Armor - Wide bladed cutting beast If some non "wading in" scenario I would go with this Del Tin (although it would need to be sharpened first). Its just a quick and handy sword that is an easy one hander, 32" blade but has an unusually long grip so you can get 1/3 of the second hand on the grip for some serious go nuclear work.

Heff the top two are indeed handsome swords. Let me say that if I had a knife, spear, and an axe I think that I would grab my buckler before anything else, if not before. But this is limited to a sword and that would be a hard choice as I have several that will do the job and that I feel comfortable with. My Philippine pinuti would be a strong contender due to its handling, cutting, and thrusting abilities. In addition it is very robust. Here is a clip that I made for something else involving the pinuti. In the video I said that I believed that the blade was hitting the cutting board stopping it before it completely passed through the wood I was cutting, and I see in the still that is the case. I was out of bamboo at the time of making the video.

If you look at my Video, you can see what that Secondary bevel can do to flesh and bone. The forward balance is going to help the short blade in it's cutting. With my ZT D'Cap, I know I have a good blade that's going to stand up to almost anything and I can trust it to last.

It would make me sad to have to choose the Cold Steel Katana Machete over the Hanwei Oni. But if I can only take one it would be the Katana Machete for utilitarian purposes.

It might be the last thing anybody else would think to pick up, but I'd go for my Kingfisher Yagyu L7 Appalachian Hickory bokken: At 40" long and approximately 18 oz, it's light, quick, and literally hard as a rock. Definitely hard enough to split someones skull or break bones. I've got 30 years experience with a bokken and would feel confident using it in a hypothetical life or death situation. I do have a Cold Steel cruciform cane sword, and am preparing to buy my first katana now, but among that limited choice it would be the bokken I'd stake my life on.

I went with an ATrim XVIa sword a few posts back, but I've changed my mind. I now choose my Del Tin DT6161, a very long and broad dagger. The blade is 16.125 inches long and 2 inches wide at the guard. It would be much easier to carry around, and considering the techniques used on "The Walking Dead", a better all-around stabber and cutter. If I had a Coustille, I might use that instead.
