If I had access to a vehicle, my Badger Blade Bastard, it is tough as advertised and my longest blade. Once I get around to sharpening, my Windlass 1860

While I would love to bring the Giant's Bane, I think I would get tired out using it too much. I am torn between a St-Nihonto 9260 Michonne look alike katana I have, and a Damascus Han Dynasty jian that is about the length of a wakizashi. Both are light, sharp and easily portable (due to the leather sling system on the Michonne and the frog I currently have on the jian. The jian makes me think of "Needle" from Game of Thrones.

I'd probably take my Atrim 1557 it's light enough to carry all day and for a sheath knife a Blackjack Halo 14.

That Atrim reference got me thinking: would a hex nut assembly work better for this situation than a peened assembly (for Euros)? The hex nut could regularly be tightened, but has a bigger chance of coming loose during prolonged engagements with zombies/infected/cannibals/bandits. The peened one should be sturdier but once broke it's next to impossible to repair (you could cold peen but the noise will just attract everyone).

I think in that scenario if a peened sword broke I'd just ditch it and find another.

Changed my mind yet again. I would go with my ATrim Tactical Cuttoe. With its slightly curved 22 inch blade and no loose hilt problem, it is perfect for this situation.

This one is a tough call, but I think mobility is key to survival so would have to be small and light but also still able to get the job done. So a Tactical Katana or Machete for me, here's what I would take from what I own.

I only have two swords to choose from, my Windlass Sword of Homildon Hill or my DSA Excalibur. While my Excalibur is heavier & therefore slower, I believe it to be tougher & more durable. With the likelihood of having to fight an adversary also armed with a sword being very low, I'd go with my Excalibur. Now that it has a hilt assembly I can trust, I would use my Homildon Hill instead of my DSA. Much faster sword, and I put a better edge on it as well.

I love these threads. They are truly a guilty pleasure. A great one to jump back in on. BTW, I was Kristoferjaemz a while back. Life happened, a hiatus occurred, and I am back enjoying the wonderful world that is SBG once again. I have several swords that would not work well in this scenario, primarily because I am terrible with them. I think the LA mainz gladius would be my first choice. Compact, durable, cut and thrust. The lack of a substantial guard gives me pause though. The Windlass Lakonia is just so easy to use that it tempts me though. I think I must favor the gladius, if only for the sake of reach. Perhaps in a few months I can change my choice to the Munich.

Man this is a tough one!...
I think I would be grabbing something fairly short and handy, but with lots of durability and cutting power. And not only a good swordy thing, but a good tool as well. So I think it would come down to one of two ATrim falchions (short Thorpe or Courtrai) or a Zombie Tools Phalanx. Any of those three will work as a good bludgeoning weapon or tool if the edge is rolled and/or dulled.

In a zombie apocalypse I'd use my Regenyei Montante. It would be easy to take out large groups of zombies with that sword if you have room to swing it. In close quarters it can be used with halfswording techniques and the pommel could probably crush a zombie skull. In a more realistic scenario (human and animal enemies) I'd take my Albion Talhoffer instead.

Is this a kiku matsuda piece?

Wow? basically nobody, in four pages of responses, has chosen a katana. Well I did see one who said he might take his Michonne katana clone and couple saying they would take a Hanwei banshee or Tactical katana, if you count those as katana. To me katana are just the perfect blade to use against unarmored opponents. Especially rotting zombie corpses. So my Hanwei Practical Plus Elite for me. There are katana I would probably prefer over this. For instance a Raptor in this case might be a bit better, but the rules say pick from what you own.

Albion Earl If there's even the remote possibility of being caught in a bind and having to swing a sword, you bet I wanna look fine doing it. That and I'm on enough drugs to think I'm a 15th century Duke.

I'd like to say the one in my signature, my Great Beast... But I don't want to be that boring this time, so I'll go with this one: It's my first sword and it has endured everything you can imagine. It's heavily customized CS warrior kat (I don't like the original design at all). Among other things I've shortened it, reprofiled the blade and made tactical handle and fittings to it. I think durability is one key factor, although not the most important. Resonably light weight is also important and this one weights around 1kg. Last weekend we had a little cutting session with my friends. My friends who were holding a real sword first time in their life were able to cut newspaper rolls with this without any problems. So when it comes to last resort weapon I want something that is easy to swing around effectively even if I'm in difficult enviroment, injured, disoriented etc.
