A recent conversation with our own L. Driggers (Fallen) inspired me to post this, as I thought it would be a fun topic... Do any of you have pieces in your collection that you dreamed of having when you were a child? Three movies lit the fire in me as a child---Excalibur, Hawk The Slayer, & Sword of The Valiant, all from the early 1980's. I was eight or nine at the time, and I vowed to some day have my own sword from Excalibur, a full sized crossbow like Voltan's in Hawk The Slayer, & the Green Knight's axe from Sword of The Valiant. I'm 41 now, and as of now I own two out of the three... Gabriel Byrne as Uther, in Excalibur, with Excalibur... My Excalibur... Jack Palance, as Voltan, in Hawk The Slayer, with crossbow... My crossbow... The third item I do not yet have. Sean Connery, as the Green Knight, in Sword of The Valiant, with his axe... I'm hoping sometime in the next year to commission this final piece from Fallen. So how about you...I'd love to hear your stories & see your pics of any childhood fantasy pieces come to life...

You know, it's funny, as a kid I never really saw much in swords. Even in my teen years, when I first started getting into them, it was never a case of seeing one in a movie or what have you that I felt I had to have; it was more a generic "suddenly, I want a sword..." kind of feeling.
Anime, which I'd recently found more exposure to, had its influences. Obviously, the best swords were katanas, right? Yet, the first "sword" I bought was some medieval-esque fantasy job. I still have it, mostly in one piece...
I just kind of dove in, took whatever caught my eye and learned from it what I could. Never really had a "dream sword" or even an end goal, save the age old "I want one of everything."
More recently I've narrowed myself down to a much smaller list of wants, but am still a long way off from that "dream" collection.

Conan the Barbarian - I think I was 11 or 12 when I saw it at the drive in. Awesome swords, Hmm, Excalibur has been a sword I've wanted for a long time, but from reading reviews, etc., the only one I'd want to get would be the Albion Discerner, which is out my price range for the time being. The Sword and the Sorcerer - the tri-sword was one of my favorites when I was a young kid, but now looks hokey (hey - I still like the movie though ). The number one sword I'd like to commision based off of a work of fantasy would be a very specific one from the Dragonlance series... not saying which one yet!

I was old enough to see Excalibur in the movies and that was the sword I wanted. A year later came Conan and that changed my mind. A little later my mom took my sister and I to Spain and we visited the The Royal Armoury in Madrid, Spain and HOLY SH#T was I hooked on historical medieval weapons. I was sure that I was going to have a house full of armor, halberds, swords and shields. But that never happened. Somehow I switched over to Japanese weapons and that's what I currently love.

Beastmaster was one. The Thundercats sword. And pretty much any ninja sword as there were so many cheesy ninja flicks back then.
But really, I wanted a lightsaber... a real one!

I didn't see Conan until a little later although I did read some of the books. Not influential enough for my childhood lists though. I did also want Freddy claws.

Pretty much every sword I saw when I was a kid lol.
Of course Conan's sword and Excalibur from the movie "Excalibur". I can say a lot of swords but I'm just going for the ones that I really impressed me when I was young and teen.
Dar's sword from "Beastmaster".
Hawk's sword from "Hawk The Slayer"
Lot's of weapons from Frazetta, longsword from Mars
Death Dealer's axe
Also love the axe in the movie "Fire and Ice"

Razor, it warms my heart to see someone appreciate "The Mind-Sword" from Hawk The Slayer! Beastmaster was a great flick as well, and hey, it had Rip Torn! I also thought the Glaive from Krull was pretty cool, but even at my young age I though it was a little too dangerous...

"BEASTMASTER"! Oh, yeah! Definitely one of my favorite movies as a teenager. My sword "Jones" was mostly fueled by artwork and comics. I have always been a Frazetta fanatic. (Probably why I love Jody Samson's work so much). "Conan the Barbarian", "The Savage Sword of Conan", "King Conan", "Kull the Conqueror", "Elric of Melnibone" and "Arak Son of Thunder". I also had books of Frazetta's work that I stared at for hours on end. My Jody Samson Broadsword brings those memories to life for me.

Nice sword Curtis! LG, believe it or not, I still haven't seen The Sword & The Sorcerer yet---but after watching that clip you posted, I HAVE to see it! I still absolutely LOVE old, cheesy sword & sorcery flicks, and that looks just perfect...

I had a freddy glove from the first year they came out for Halloween and they were way better quality than the ones that came out every Halloween after.
