Don't see that often, muneyaki, I think it's called? Didn't read the description, just looked at pictures. :-X I just watched this one go by and have been mourning since: m.ebay.com/itm/141542415114Starting bid was $499. Stayed at $699 for three days, in the last five minutes if exploded. I watched it as it went, just sobbing to myself. :( Watching a naginata that will probably do the same thing, but I'm also debating shooting an email to Aoi about one of their naginata... Any ETA on your wak? Aoi Art stated: " Please be noted that it will take two and a half weeks to obtain export permission. When we received the permit, we will send the wakizashi to your shipping address in New Jersey by EMS." Which is cool. So I've been doing as much research as I can on my naoshi and came across this katana with a hamon on the ha and mune. Is it worth the $$$? About ebay, I know the feeling. I've been following the stuff sold by this guy and the final bids are too high for me. www.ebay.com/sch/komonjo/m.html?item=161570763880&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

Oh right, export papers. Duh. So three weeks, then. Not bad, I guess. Is that other sword worth $9k? Not to me, no. To somebody, sure. To you? That's your call. Edit: There are plenty available from numerous sources, only restriction is your personal preference and budget. I usually make a pass or two through ten or a dozen or so sites in a given day, including eBay, which have a pretty wide spectrum of available items. I'm more into the wak/tanto/nag/yari, so kats aren't really grabbing me. You're more than welcome to buy them all.

I thought the one at Ricecracker sold last year but it seems like it didn't as it is still at the site: www.militaria.co.za/nmb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18285It is quite expensive and there are plenty of other blades I would go for if I had that kind of money.

Hmmm, no not really. I have 3 Nihonto Wakizashi's and one tanto and a bunch of kozuka, tsuba and things like that. Could always use a Katana though.

I tried to translate whatever I could but I can't say for sure that it's 100% correct. I also want to say that they did an excellent job with the packaging. The entire process of purchasing the sword, email communication, and the ability of tracking the package right to my door gave me the confidence that these guys know what they are doing and have a great operation.
The sword also came with a real silk sword bag, a tracing of the sword wrapped in a scroll, a laminated appraisal from AOIJAPAN (pictures included with the appraisal, and of course the NBTHK papers. Very professional operation.

In the meantime, what are your thoughts? :D The shirasaya is thicker than what I expected. I understand that it's only for storage purposes but it's thick and on the heavy side. The thick tsuka is throwing off my perception and the balance might be off. But I love it. The hada and hamon are beautiful, and I don't care much for the habaki. There are a few imperfections with the fuller (not even on both sides) but that's ok and it makes me feel a little better about my work. Very hard to get things perfect when it's hand made.

That is a really thick shirasaya. I guess most would be, I've seen some tanto that look like toothpicks in their shirasaya despite being quite wide. Great photos, I love the setup. Lots of cool stuff going on in that corner. Been eyeing up that one naginata, waiting to see what my tax return looks like...bht there's a flyssa on eBay that I'm wanting, too.

Actually, the flyssa I'm watching is misspelled. It's also $700...but for a 35" blade in pretty darn good shape, I could pull that together... I'm also still shopping for a new "Khyber," and maybe a wootz kard...but they're all well above my current budget. Not to mention I really should be paying off my credit card and having my current two wakizashi polished instead of buying more stuff...

I must say I wasn't too fond of the shape after seeing Aoi-arts pictures but when I saw your own pics it looks damn good. Also that acrylic casing looks amazing. I wish I had a similar casing & stand. I especially like this pic.

I found that amusing, too, Jussi. As much as Digs downplayed his photography, the shots are really good. Aoi's were decent for detail viewing, but very flat and tough to really gauge the scale of the thing. Digs' shots really add a sense of depth and perspective that makes this blade stand out. I liked it well enough at Aoi, I love how it looks now.

Wow Digs, that blade is really nice! You did good on that one. Your display is magnificent on top of that! Very nice job on everything.
