A few of you guys urged me to make a video with my new Albion Crecy. That got me thinking of an idea for this thread. So here's the first installment. The Albion Next Generation Crecy is an Oakeshott Type XVIa longsword, that really falls into the hand-and-a-half category for me. I really like the hilt for a sword that can be worn in a scabbard on the belt. For me, it's just about the extreme limit for a convenient size to wear. Gratuitous eye candy to fill up space. It's not a light sword at 3lbs 1 oz. But it handles much "lighter" than it actually weighs. It's very rigid for thrusting, exhibiting almost no lateral movement when struck on the pommel. And it cuts extremely well. For an all-around fighting sword, this is fast becoming my favorite type. Here's the fun video. Hope you enjoy it!

Looks like you had quite a bit of fun. That thing cuts pretty darn well (in your hands), too. I might have to try to pick one up some day. Thanks for the pics and video.

I LOVE the music. +1 to you, good sir.
That thing is a beast. It really puts our love of Windlasses and Gen2s into perspective. How sharp would you describe the edge as being? Razor sharp, or just possesing good blade geometry?

How sharp would you describe the edge as being? Razor sharp, or just possesing good blade geometry? It has a lot of meat to the edge. It was really dull when I got it, so I had to sharpen it quite a bit. I'd say it's "sword sharp" but wouldn't cut paper. I've been working on the edge a bit today. It will now just barely start to cut paper, but not easily.

When you cut off the cap with a little flick of the wrist at 1:52 I was led to believe it must be razior-sharp. Or maybe I just need to work on my technique....

Shows how important geometry is, doesn't it?

Shows how important geometry is, doesn't it? Yep. Geometry...the only math class I made an A in. Hmmm... maybe it's significant?

Mike, regarding that grip, how long is that? Interesting to know what your ideal grip length is. Thanks for the vid.

Mike, regarding that grip, how long is that? Interesting to know what your ideal grip length is. Thanks for the vid. Hey Bren, The Crecy grip is 6 5/8 inches. The front half is 3 1/4 inches between guard and middle riser. I really wish that measurement was 4 inches. Then it would be perfect.

Right on Mike. That was your best vid yet. Im really impressed with your handling and technique, you're pretty accurate with that thing . That thrust through the milk jug was pretty slick!

Wow....
I've yet to get an A in a math class. Of course, I dislike the subject and my parents despise that because they think I'm good at it *barfs*
Mike, no chance of one for the baron?

I'm up for making and posting cutting video of Albions I have. But only if people want to see them. Since this forum is dedicated primarily to sub$300 swords, the Albions aren't really appropriate. But Paul has been lenient, as long as the focus doesn't detract from that stated goal. I figured you would request the Knight since it's your favorite Albion sword, or so I think I remember? But that was a while ago...

Since, ya asked, I'd be interested to see how your Albions cut, Mike. I don't think it detracts from our sub $300 focus. On the contrary, it give a perspective on different quality blades. I'm liking the Crecy, btw.

Thanks Rick.
I've been looking at the pictures of the Crecy, and it occurrs to me that if the Hanwei Albrecht II hand-n-a-half sword had the same pommel as the Crecy, they'd look like twins. At least in profile. The Hanwei is a bit lighter and slightly faster, but not as authoritative or rigid.

I noticed the similarities also. I really like Al so I figure the Crecy I'd like even more.

Yeah. And this is really making me want to replace the pommel on my ole Al-Baby!

Hey Mike, I'd like to see a cutting video of the Baron as well. Would it be too much to ask to see some tatami cutting, or similar targets? The XII's and XIII"s are supposed to be monsters when it comes to that.

The XII's and XIII"s are supposed to be monsters when it comes to that. I'll be happy to do that as soon as I get some tatami. Dan, Dimytri and I are supposed to be going in together on large tatami orders. That reminds me I need to bug him about that.
