I'm going to preface this by stating that I don't have a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or whatever else is popular these days, nor have I ever wanted one, so if this question was answered on one of those, I apologize. Now. Some years back, when the Malatesta was first released, it had this vaguely Type XII blade that I personally never really cared for, at least not with that hilt furniture, as seen in this old Kult of Athena photo: The other day, I was updating prices on my wishlist and decided to take another look at VA's offerings, which I honestly forget half the time since I really only do my window shopping at KoA these days; I came across their newest offering, the Noble, which I was immediately quite taken with and began ogling it on the VA Facebook page when I came across a blade I hadn't seen before with the Malatesta's hilt furniture: Curious, I started looking to see if it was a one-off or a new production model and found several other posts about it, in one of which (above) Sonny refers to it as the "407 Malatesta". I was a little confused, so I kept looking, but I couldn't find any mention of the Malatesta getting a new blade profile, which left me a little stumped. Then I figured someone here, who's a little more "in the know", so to speak, might have a better grasp on the situation than me. So. Did the Malatesta quietly get a new blade profile or did I just miss the writing on the wall?

Hello, VA/CSS updated the Malatesta model from a type XII blade to a pointier type XVish. It's still very cutting oriented but the tip is generally stiff enough for poking things. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/42079from a review I did in Oct 2014 on the Malatesta Sword

Thanks for the replies, guys; I'm glad to know it's a new blade, because it actually made me want a Malatesta. lg: So you're the owner of that gorgeous antique gray? I came across that on Sonny's Facebook and may or may not have stated drooling.

Yeah, I asked Sonny to emboss my family shield on the scabbard (Grey Heron) - came out great!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the new blade on the Malatesta is the same as the one on the Valor.

Looks very similar doesn't it?
Personally I am 50/50 with which sword I prefer as the Malatesta having stainless steel fittings is a turn off for me.

They look similar, but the Valor is slightly longer and the fuller looks to be a few inches longer, proportionally, than the new Malatesta's; the Valor's fuller looks like it runs to within 3-4" of the tip (making it about 30" long), while the Malatesta's looks to be about 3/4 length (so it'd be about 24-26" long). The Valor also seems to come to a somewhat narrower tip.

If you go to this more recent thread, Sonny says that the Malatesta and Valor do use the same blade. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/43236/va-malatesta-valor - I wonder if the two pommels make them handle differently?
