I created this poll just to see what is your thoughts towards Martial Arts. (If you changed your mind about what you feel towards Martial Arts in the future, you are always welcome to come back and state your mind-being)
For me, I practice Wushu just for my own health and would like people to stop fighting, it is just not the way to settle things in manners.

Ok, I gotta say "other", as it's really a combination of several of the above. First and foremost, I sit on my ever-growing butt all day in a windowless office. I need martial arts to stay in shape. Second, I study kungfu to glimpse a culture that I find absolutely fascinating. I'd love to visit China at some point too. Last, and least, for mad fighting skillz, because I'm a thug. Also, I'm going to take this opportunity to link my Hanwei Chinese Sword review. Just 'cause. /index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=1192926181

#s 1 and 2 for me, with a little bit of 3 and 4. I put #2, just because that's the most important.

I voted "other" because it's equal parts 2, 3, and 4.

Err.. I suck at making polls... better luck next time How many people actually been in a 'real' fight before? Real fight meaning an actual threat rather than bully.

I could have benefitted from some martial arts training early on. You learn how to anticipate and counter basic punches on your own if you fight enough times, and you get better at it. No one I ever fought had martial arts training that I know of.

I think it's a good poll Dao, very relevant. In fact, +1.
I haven't been in a fight in a very long time - that's a GOOD thing. I find that if you carry yourself as though you could own any mofo in the room, there are less instigators.

for me i guess martial arts is more a way of life, i try to keep an open mind and to use all things that come on my way to improve my body and my mind, but my first principel of martial arts would be fighting is pointless but on the other hand i don't have any problems do bring harm to those who attack me. and if it wasn't for law enforcement i'd proberly hurt some people badly. it doesn't happen often i get stuck in a fight but when i do i alway's try to find a peacefull solution until there is no way out of it at that point my moral and emotions just turn off and i get in a sort of fighting trance. so when i'm at that point i get very calm and focused on just one thing taking the other guy out. lucky me i only passed that point once in a fight knocked the other guy cold with one punch. for the rest i use meditation techniques to train that state of mind (guess you could call it something like fighting spirit) for the rest if i can end it more peacefull like using a simple armbar or something to show the other guy he doens't stand a chance and just leave i gladly do so. on the streets my main way of fighting would be to aim at pressure points in the body nerves and that sort of things it ends things fast.
dao what style of wushu do you practice if i may ask

I personally am pretty good at keeping myself out of trouble. If I did find myself in a hostile situation though I would first consider my surroundings. The last thing I want is to ruin my future with a criminal record. Then if the situation warrants I'd grab the nearest object to use as a weapon, why waste effort with unarmed combat?

well weapons are fun but the problem is that you often get juristic trouble with them. and my personal favorite techniques are pressure points, it's almost funny how much damage you can do without physicly injure someone (on the outside like a bruised eye or something). i had a situation with some drunk guy sayin he would steal my motor he just happened to make a mistake and grab my coat. i took him in an armbar and at least bruised his wrist badly but for the rest i try to keep out of trouble at all times but when i have to i'll do it without regret
