And that's fine. The internet is an easy place to miscommunicate.
I see no reason to lock this down - we're all trying to be friendly here, and if there's no hard feelings than no harm done.

A bit over4 years total of study and practice, including some on my own with like-minded individuals. I am married, working full time and in grad school now, so my time is rather short! If I went into another discipline it would probably be Jiu-Jitsu again or Muay Thai for some strength and health training.

I think the answer to the question pretty much is determined by someone's lifestlyle. If you are constantly in harms way, the goal of martial arts is to be able to fight. However, for most, it is to be healthy and wise. And the poll results reflect that.

You must still have some of your youth left! Ah, to be young again. I am looking at dabbling in Parkour, doing a light regimen based on Gym Jones, and following it up with BodyWeight/Five Tibetans/DynamicTension/Yoga type exercises. I might toss in some Flamenco dancing to round me out. I'd rather mix it up with some cross training than be bored and get complacent.

For one's own healthy wisdom, I believe it would be best to practice proficiency in firearms and edged tools. For non-lethal self defense it would be resorting to tools and tactics designated as such. FMA and military combatives seems to fill the niche quite nicely if one wants something expedient.

Obviously it woulod be prudent, but remember that a lot of people in those situations dont have the financial security to do so.

I've done jujitsu without belts because of how important it is to know self defense. I have moved onto doing my own system of teaching and mixing arts to come up with something more effective than a single system.

Why eskrima out of curiousity swordboy? BJJ is not really that effective a system against more than one opponent from what I have observed and is more about grappling.

Brazilian Ju-Jitsu i assume. And I just moments ago got back from my first Kendo practice since before winter break. The entire top of my head is one big knot. My arms look like I am a Leper, and my body feels like mush. In other words, everything's back to normal!
