Generic Solingen 1822 type. Many of the Solingen grips were smooth wood, wrapped in cord, then the leather and wire between the cord winds.. My "wristbreaker" was made in this fashion. Attachments:

This looks like the late 19th century US Ancient&Honorable Artillery (Boston) swords. The counter guards quite distinctive. Let me see if I have a better picture or few. As shown in Peterson's The American Sword 1775-4945 Often marked to both Ames and Henry V Allen & Co. Wow - good ID. Found more information here, now that we know what it is Unusually, the seller says that there are no markings, though perhaps those were lost to time www.swordforum.com/forums/showthread.php?116033-Ancient-amp-Honorable-Artillery-Company-Saber

Yes, one can find a fair amount on the internet for the swords and the Boston military association.
The same counter guard also appears on some earlier English swords and there was an English Ancient and Honorable Artillery company but iirc, this hilt type appeared on some of the East India Company marked swords.

Another mystery! www.ebay.ca/itm/311774369779?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITI actually got this sword tonight, and will post more pictures later. Was wondering what it was. The blade and guard are definitely original. The grip looks strange but looks well done. I have gotten good stuff from impbayo before and have a decent amount of trust in the quality of his goods. As I said before, I will post more pics/a detailed writeup when I have time. Would appreciate it if you could let me know what areas or close-ups I should include in my pictures which may aid identification. The leather washer is pretty well stuck on, so won't be able to peak under their for the time being. Cannot find anything on the guard, but maybe there are some places which warrant a closer look.
