So I have been saving up some, and was thinking of getting some new blades, and you guessed it, from Zombie Tools. As a gift for my older brother (who is 6'3-6'4), he likes the Mac Daddy-O, Where as I am still deciding. I'm debating between the Zakasushi or the Hellion, I want this for self defense post SHTF, but also for survival if need be. I figured close to $1000 should cover cost, tax, shipping, and a trip to Whataburger  . I am open to other recommendations, either other of their designs or different blades entirely, but want something similar to those two. Any opinions or help y''all can give will be very much appreciated. The people apart of this forum are very kind and helpful , which is why I keep coming back. Thanks again!

I have a Hellion and like it for what it is...an overbuilt survival tool and whacky looking collector sword. It's a tank like all ZT's offerings. If you tried to use it in a real sword fight against someone with matching skill and a good fighting sword you'd get your clock cleaned, because the ZT stuff is overbuilt and relatively slow, and a semprini when fast recovery is needed. But for their intended purposes (smashing/hacking stuff, chopping heads and looking cool) they are excellent. It would be one of my standout choices in a "grab&go" disaster survival scenario.

Zakasushi and Hellion are good choices and out of the two I with the Zakasushi. I personally liked the D'Capitan over the Zak and the Hellion. I also would go with the Bone Machete over the Hellion, but if you want the Bone you need to order it now because it's going to be retired soon.
They are also going to come out with a new Scimitar soon and it's going to be a fast sword. I got to handle the proto type and even with the kydex taped to it ready to be pressed to make the sheath it was still agile and fast.
I have pics of it and will soon post pics.

I agree with the Hellion, but I disagree with all their offerings. I have the D'Capitan and it's not slow in the recovery and I would be confident in going against someone with a Atrim or Albion.

The only reason I haven't considered the D'Capitan is because I wanted a somewhat compact sword. Could be used indoors if I had to. And Razor, I saw in their video an Egyptian khopesh type of blade, maybe that's what you were referring to? Thanks to everyone! Keep them coming,

For indoor I like a blade 22'' or less but the D'Cap isn't that much longer around 23 1/2'' and still could ne used indoors, but I still would be more comfortable with a 22'' blade.
The Bone Machete would be the best for indoor use and It's to bad that ZT are going to stop making the Bone, because in my opinion it's their best SHTF sword. But no one is buying them anymore.
No the Khopesh is the scimitar that I'm was talking about. The Khopesh in the pic was a proto type that didn't make it.

That's to bad, a Khopesh would have been bad 3:) . And I realized the blade length of the D'Cap after I posted that. The Bone just seems to angled to me, for survival anyways, probably one of the best tactical sword they have. So I guess it's between the Zakasushi and the D'Cap , Opinions?

I really like my Zakasushi. It is larger than a traditional wakizashi. It works either one handed or two-handed, for me at least. Length is the same as the d'capitan but the zak is a bit lighter. Mostly I would say it comes down to what you're more comfortable with--what types of blades have you worked with. The D'capitan has a lot going for it; it's a great sword and I quite like mine, but I've spent more time with katana like swords and so the zakasushi is easier for me to use. Given time and practice I have no doubt the cap will be just as comfortable for me. I will echo Razor's recommendation of the Bone Machete, it is really nice and an absolute beast. Even though it has the same weight as the cap it is shorter with a closer POB so is a bit easier to handle. There are reviews of a few Zombie tools in the review section (Razor did one on the cap and I did one (with Razor's help) on the Bone Machete).

Yeah The Zakasushi, D'Cap, and Bone are good swords, but it's what fits your needs the best. ZT Xiphos is also a good sword and is ZT highest seller. Here are the reviews. D'Capitan viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15000Bone Machete viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15815If you want the Bone, get it now before it goes bye bye.

This seems like it's going to be one of the most challenging decisions I will make in a while... Zakasushi or D'Capitan...I'm just worried the Zakasushi won't have the foreword momentum the D'Cap will, that it won't be able to chop as well. But I'm also worried I won't be able to control the D'Cap as well as I might the Zakasushi...

Have to say I really like the look of the D'Capitan. And a big plus is they charge reasonable postage to Australia, the checkout comes up with $53.

Anyone know if you can order them with a satin finish or how much sanding would be involved to bring them back from the “protective” finish?

Don't discount the Vakra - it's not as long as some of their other models; but if you're looking at a real "user" piece, it will handle the job. It's in my sights, I just haven't gotten around to it, yet due to other pieces taking priority.

DANG IT! All this talk has inspired me to buy the first sword I've bought in almost a year. I just ordered a Zakasushi. The decision was between a Zak and a D'Cap. Just couldn't get past the D-guard on the D'Cap. Don't like it and don't want it in a piece like this. Now I'm already having second thoughts that I could have gotten the D'Cap and removed the protruding guard to a degree that would satisfy me. DAMMIT! I may have to buy that one too. Darn you, Ray! You're going to get me in trouble...again.

Heh... I have been wanting the D-Cap ever since I got a chance to play with Ray's at a get together. Sadly... I've been selling swords and buying firearms... so I doubt it will happen for me. :-(

Now im trying to decide between the Zakasushi and the Vakra, the Vakra will suit my camping needs, and looks less like a weapon than the Zak. But the Zak looks like it would be more fun to cut stuff with, pumkins ect. And can be used a machete and minor chopping, plus I feel like I can figjt better with a 2 handed weapon, and am smart enougj to put 22 inches of blade between me and someone else if need be. But i might have problems taking it to camp grounds and such. What do y'all think? Thanks for your help!

The Zak is a good choice Mike. One reason I picked the Cap, was it had some hand protection. I didn't really care how they did the D-guard, I wished it was whole and didn't have that spaced cut out of it. But I got over it and use it as a bottle opener now. lol
The Vakra, still looks like a weapon, but I know what your getting at. If you want something for camping, get an axe and a knife....It's would be a lot cheaper.
It's really what you want and looking for, do you want to cut targets with a sword or do you want to cut with a kukri?

OK, why would you buy a +edged weapon+ with the idea of using it for self Defense in a world Full of Firearms? Ok, lets get real here... A rifle of some sorts, followed by a handgun, WHICH btw is used ONLY to fight your way back to your rifle, rfol!! So you have your ar15 style rifle, a clock 19 or something like it and you have a need for an edged weapon of some sorts.. How much weight are you planning on lugging around? You want a huge useless sword monstrosity that as soon as you wield it you get dropped by a 30 caliber round through your favorite head? ... You have the same dilemma i have !! Zombie tools "Vakra" is going to be your first choice BECAUSE ... you can use the thing to do useful cutting with!! It is smaller and portable and therefore you can carry it easily , it is much easier to sharpen and keep sharp.. AND if you had to ruin someones day it would be very good at it! Think about it for a second.. IN a SHTF situation, A Rifle with a crap load of ammo, a smaller 9mm pistol and a couple of knives including a Vakra and your set... NOBODY is gonna take you on easily and pity the fools that underestimate you.. Show up with just a stupid sword and all you will hear is a Bang followed by the "light at the end of the tunnel" with saint Peter shaking his head and laughing at you... something to think about?!? ,

They used to offer a 'bolt on' piece that made it a complete guard... do they still have that?
