Very nice review... Thanks! About the similiarity of Discerner and Excalibur, there is an article addressing that: www.albion-swords.com/Discerner/ ... story.html

Thanks for the review.
KOA has the sword thickness: 4.6 mm - 4.3 mm. Can see where this contributes to the weight issue.
+1 Karma.

Great article, thanks for posting. +1 Karma
I'll most likely send it to Ernie for a re-grind after the holidays are over...

Sure Ernie will get it up to snuff.
I have one of Bruce Brookhart's swords with him now for a complete hilt redo.

That secondary bevel looks quite well executed but also looks quite steep, which really shows that the blade is incredibly thick with little or none distal taper. If you can get a re-grind, which is a considerable amount of work it could turn out to be an alright sword. I do wonder though that with a massive amount of grinding, will the blade heat up enough to damage the heat treatment?

Great well written review. I like the overall lines and dimensions of that sword, and like you, Excalibur was THE movie for me when I was a kid. I am 41 now, so I was the same basic age you were when it came out and I remember just being blown away by those Knights and that story. Congrats on the purchase. p.s. - Nice touch with the movie quotes. "One day a King will come...and the sword will rise, again."

Great review man. That profile of the tip you did is fantastic. It gives the blade a very aggressive look. I can hardly wait to hear about how it handles when Ernie gets done with it. Karma for you sir.

good review!
I can tell you from first hand experience the KoA sharpening is far superior to what I got on my DSA piece. They did a great job.
DSA blades are always a weird color to me... very "white" for lack of a better word.
karma time! +1

Nice work with the grinder. The tip and edge look great for such a fat blade. Ernie will make her sing i'm sure.

My pride broke it. My rage broke it! This excellent knight, who fought with fairness and grace, was meant to win. I used Excalibur to change that verdict. I've lost, for all time, the ancient sword of my fathers, whose power was meant to unite all men... not to serve the vanity of a single man. I am... nothing.

Behold! The Sword of Power! Excalibur! Forged when the world was young, and bird and beast and flower were one with man, and death was but a dream!

I had looked long and hard at the DSA Excalibur, and was close to purchasing it on several occasions. Your review has me questioning my choice... +1
