If you do end up buying, keep in mind the weight and thickness. A re-grind from Ernie would turn this from an awesome LOOKING sword to an awesome sword all around. I fully intend to do this, as this would keep my TOTAL budget for this sword just above the $700 mark---which was my maximum when I first set out to get a new sword.

Alright, one more script blast since others are ALSO apparently Excalibur quote maniacs (I thought I was the only one). And this is purely from memory, I watched the movie MANY MANY times when I was young..so...yes, crazy geek.
<young king Arthur swinging the sword around in the early morning, Merlin wakes up and sees him practicing >
Excalibur, its part of the dragon too. Yes...oh yes, you learn quickly, I like that. Merlin, what kind of a man was my father? OH He was brave, he was strong...he was a great knight. Was he a great king? He was brash, he never learned to look inside a man's heart, least of all, his own. But you loved him. Well, its easy to love folly in a child. Will you teach me to be brave, not to be brash? Merlin, where're you going? Where do ya think, You have a kingdom to rule! But how, I don't know how. You knew how to draw the sword from the stone. That was easy. Was it? I couldn't have done it. YOU couldn't? You are the king, not I. But where to start? Well what do you think has happened since you ran off? Sir Ector and Kay, they must be waiting all this time. Most of the great knights were against me, except Leandegrants of Cameolard (sp?). But if he sides with me, the others will turn on him. Right now they lay siege to his castle. I need him, we must help him! There your ARE, that was easy too, wasn't it? That's it!...now..here we are.
<bunch of knights waiting for Arthur to show up>

The sword is on it's way to Ernie for a re-grind. I'll post pics and handling/cutting updates when I get it back.

From the mystical shores of Forks Washington, Excalibur has returned! Ernie at Yeshua's Sword did a fantastic job re-grinding the blade, and the sword is now five ounces lighter. While I don't have access to a caliper at the moment, I can easily see that the blade now has good distal taper. The central ridge after the fuller is now gone, the fullers are now properly centered, and the peen is cleaner as well. When I complimented Ernie on how good the edge came out, he said he just blended the re-grind with the edge I gave it and touched it up a bit. He gave me the buffing options of his standard fine satin finish, or the original DSA semi-mirror finish. I opted to go with Ernie's satin finish, and I'm glad I did...I think it gives the sword a more realistic look. Before re-grind:After re-grind: Updated specs: Original weight: 3 lbs, 14 oz Weight after re-grind: 3 lbs, 9 oz Original POB: 5 & 1/2" from crossguard POB after re-grind: 4 & 3/4" from crossguard Handling: The sword is noticeably faster and feels a litttle more lively. In the first vid below, you can see it takes some effort to get the sword moving. In the second vid you can see that less effort is required. Before re-grind:After re-grind:In closing for the review, I think DSA would have a great product overall if the blade geometry was done properly. I was willing to spend the extra money to have it re-ground, but I would think that most buyers would rather get a sword that already has the proper distal taper. That's too bad, as I loved everything else about this sword. Again though, thanks to Ernie, the sword is now much improved in both aesthetics and handling.

Nice review, glad the sword ended up being improved . That is my main complaint on DSA also.

He blended the re-grind into the edge I put on it, and then he touched it up a little.

Congrats on a great looking sword! I think the regrind did wonders for the overall looks department and sounds like it improved the handling a lot as well. That's a win/win.
Further testing needs to be done though.. Please drive it deep into a boulder, slice through steel bars and a few armored limbs and finally.....toss it into a lake.
Seriously, nice blade.

The reground blade looks much better. The tip is especially well done and very aggressive looking. Even factoring in the regrind you still cam out on top considering how much the only other sword you can compare it to is $1500 more.

Thanks guys, I'm really happy with it. Just more proof that Ernie at Yeshua's is THE master... You forgot one...driving it into the ground between two naked people in the forest!

i just bought one last week. Your review is spot on...however i wished i would have purchased it from KOA instead of DS...I paid $25 bucks for DS to sharpen it and the thing couldnt even cut through 3 peices of notebook paper out of the box....plus their extortionate shipping charge ($45 bucks)...Anyway live and learn i guess
Im going to send it to my friend for a re-grind and possibly have the blade shortened by 2 inches. Ill see how it goes

Great review! I remember reading this very review before I bought my Darksword Excalibur. I didn't sign up for the SBG forum until today though. Now I can interact.
