I recently held the Windlass version. I was impressed enough I put it on my 'to buy ' list. Maybe it was the grip...Mina like brass knuckles. The balance was nice and the blade looked good.

id go for the scorpion swords version, all his swords are built tough as nails with real 100% full tang construction

I personally like the DSA one best... and am sure it would be tough as hell... but its also very expensive. I don't like the wood guard and pommel area on the Scorpion sword one. The Random KoA one doesn't appear to be listed as functional.

The Strongblade looks like the Windlass one, it just is black instead of brown. I think it is a Windlass and all they did was darken the blade and had the leather made black. I agree with Sean about the Scorpion 300 and the KOA random 300. I have always liked the Windlass one even though the DSA more likely be the toughest one. On the Windlass I like the blade shape but I don't like the round grip, but the can be fixed. On the DSA I don't like the blade shape but it dose have a better handle then all the ones you posted. The DSA guard is more square than the Windlass sword and can cause a hot spot on the hands, but again that can be fixed too. DSA guard. www.kultofathena.com/images/DSA1363BK_2_l.jpgWindlass guard. www.kultofathena.com/images/881010_2_l.jpgThe DSA also comes with a better scabbard than any of the other 300 swords. And with out have any experience with either of the swords. I would think the DSA would be the best 300 sword for SHTF.

thank you for the insight and thoughts. When I checked MRL just now I see the version they currently sell is with black leather- further supports that Strongblade sells the Windlass one. www.museumreplicas.com/p-187-300 ... sword.aspx I guess the more I look at them the more I like the Windlass ones blade shape. to me the DSA one looks to have too short a ricasso (if that's what it's called) and to slight and long a clip point. Hmmm-- and at first I thought that would be the one I liked most.... oh, decisions decisions... not sure that I like the wood grip either on the SS, but it is a good mix of looks, price and durability. just thinking out loud I guess...

That's a possibility. We know that the cold steel shamshir is a windlass.

The windlass is the most screen accurate of the bunch (especially concerning the scabbard and blade shape), which is a big plus for me. The DSA is the most solid and durable, but it's more than double the price. The windlass seemed plenty sturdy in the cutting and handling tests that Arms of Valor did a couple years ago, and short blades are where windlass tends to shine best. I vote Windlass all the way (though I'd re-wrap the grip with a brown overwrap). I mean, just LOOK at it:

How good is the one from true swords? My cheap cousin is looking for a sword under $50 but I don't want him to get hurt cutting with something that isn't tough enough for the job.

I like the windlass version. DS one has too long of a grip for a single hander.

Something I just noticed...these are just big-ass Bowie knives. Wow now I like it even more.

from what I'm gathering the windlass is the best value- for double the price I just don't like the DSA enough. I'm sure I can figure out something with the grip I posted a few sales yesterday and just got home from work-- have several pms to investigate and then hopefully I'll have the cash more or less for the Windlass, which is where I think I'm headed for my xmas sword

Thats cool! If Windlass is now making the 300 Sword like this? I'll give it another plus, because I like the look even better than the brown.
This is the exact same reason why I like the Windlass blade more than the DSA blade. I haven't handled any of them, but by going from the stats that KOA gives, I believe the Windlass would be more livelier than the DSA. The DSA 300 might be more durable than the Windlass? But I rather have a good lively sword than a stronger beastly sword that doesn't handle has good. I also think that DSA swords are over priced.
Plus the Windlass 300 Sword is licensed from Frank Miller 300 with DSA just took the design and changed it a little. This might be something you care about or not?
I would get the Windlass 300 Sword. The funny thing is, since you have been posting MRL ''Deal of the Day'' I have been waiting for the 300 Sword to go on it. :ugeek:

me too. If it did come on sale I'd have 2 by now! I think though that it sells well enough without having to be on saleIt's the Windlass for me mates. Cheers for help an solidifying me choice. Overall in my collection I'm trying to pare down and sell of pieces I just don't use much, and trying to put my money into more "quality" and less "quantity"... but the 300 sword has been a desire of mine since I saw the movie and read the graphic, and I have a sort of tradition I'm trying to get going of buying myself a christmas present sword every year, without breaking the bank. I have something on order with Ernie as well and that can be my foray into stepping up the collection quality/custom work-wise. This 300 sword can be my funzies buy for the season

Yeah - I have always wanted to get one but never pulled the trigger. All the hype about zombies and such would make this a great side weapon.

just wanted to add that the grip and scabbard only come in brown as far as I've been told by vendors. It's just the lighting in some pics that make the leather appear black. Mine is indeed brown.
