To start, here's a description of what I'm looking for: 16"-ish blade single handed scale style grip definitely less than 2 lbs, but preferably around 1 1/2 lbs. High quality, acute blade geometry Preferably single edged anything non-Japanese style I'm definitely not sold on a tactical Kopis design but that does seem to be a recurring theme when I'm looking So here's a sword that would fit the bill absolutely perfectly: tinkerswords.com/forsale.htmlScroll all the way to the bottom for the "tactical TSS" However, I don't think that's something I can get my hands on easily. Not for lack of money.. but I don't think Tinker is making near as many swords these days, and I imagine the backlog for getting one is right up there with the likes of Atrims and Odins. Windlass makes a tactical kopis under their Cobra Steel line on KoA which I really dig and I even may get it out of curiosity. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... teel+Kopis But, I'd like something more high end. I'm OK with production blades, it's just that i'm pining for the quality and consistency of the higher end stuff as I find the satisfaction of getting exactly what I want to be more than worth the higher initial price. On the flipside of that though, Like I said I'd rather not wait a year to get one..A matter of months isn't as big of a deal but as silly as it is, I can't see myself having the patience to wait many months for a design so simple. Any Ideas?

f.m.:
I've got the Kopis, and quite like it. Ever since I showed up here and took an interest in functional swords, Windlass has seemed to get consistently high marks for their shorter blades---witness RicWilly's enthusiasm for the various gladii Windlass produced, and the Spartan lakonian. The only thing I don't like about the Kopis is the sheath---its' crap, in terms of looks and charm. As soon as I get my roundtuit, I'm going to do up a fresh one from poplar with a leather wrap.
As for the blade, well, I've always been a fan of Windlass' tempering. The Kopis seems to walk the line between being fast and being sturdy. Very stabby, very cutty.
I call it a tac-yat instead of a kopis, since if you squint hard enough it can pass as a yataghan, and that's where my enthusiasms lie.
I really, really like the Tinker blade, and have spent time trying to justify the time and money. For right now, the Kopis is doing the job. Hope this helps.

Here's something to check out f.m. - traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/N ... ibars.html. It's the new Sansibar from Traditional Filipino Weapons, and aside from the tactical grip it sounds like what you might be looking for. This model has a sheath that is a bit more decorative with cutouts, but check out their other products as well, lots of good stuff there and the rest of them come with a solid sheath.

Stop, Steelhound! I've been trying to resist the allure of the TFW blades for a while now. Every time I look at them, I think,"Man, that'd make up into a very decent little imposto-yat."
Good looking blades, they really are.

Sorry Cossack, didn't meant to tempt you buddy. Especially with links to such beautiful blades, just begging to be bought and handled, sweet sexy curves all day long... whoa, sorry! I think I was doing it again. I do own a few of their blades that I'm very happy with, but it's been a struggle not to buy the Janap and/or Ceremonial Knife #1 as well. Then they put out this D-guard Sansibar, with no regard whatsoever for my (empty) wallet!! Bunch of jerks.

Thanks for your suggestions so far, all options i'm considering adding to my collection at some point as well Just for the heck of it, I drew up a design last night(i know this is the wrong thread) but here's another shape that would fit my description quite well. It's somewhat to scale, with a 17 inch blade, and 4 1/4 inches to grip. It'd be about 3/16" at the thickest, and it would have a blended convex grind from spine to edge, and about 40% distal taper. It also has a small false edge for the first few inches on top.

I also own the Windlass/Cobra Steel Kopis and agree about the sheath, however for the price I like it. Cossack I also think of it as my Tac-Yat. If you have your own design F.m. you should look into Scorpion Swords and Knives, as most of his designs are designs that people have had him make.

Oh heck yes, for the price, I have no complaints! It's about a choppy, stabby little thing, isn't it?

You might want to drop Tinker a e-mail and ask him if he can make another one of those TSS's... I had one and it was pretty cool. Light and wicked fast. Also you might check out Zombie Tools... they have a couple of shorter single edged weapons might fit the bill your looking for.

I was super surprised with the cobra steel Kindjal, You could get a few at that price and stack them around the house, one in the car, maybe one in a backpack. Access to a very deadly little weapon everywhere
