Makes you wonder if you ordered one sharp would they just wave it over a belt grinder ? Perhaps MRL should lose the "M"

I think that they stop caring about the quality once the sword dips below 150. There is no way that the sword I got should be a 300 dollars sword if the blade looks like that.

Well the current price has dropped - "Closeout! Reg $295, Now Only $225!" - Perhaps word has leaked that these are not up to par ?

I dont know. In the review on this forum of this sword, the blade looks beautiful. Thats why i bought it when it went on the weekend deal but this is clearly not a 300 dollars sword and its barely worth the 220 theyre chaging for it. Maybe the non sharpensed version is better?

No, I ordered mine unsharpened - $109 + postage = $153 discounted or not the blade is still poor.

Like I have said in other threads, buying directly from MRL is not a sure thing. I got a couple swords this last year that should have never cleared QC. I was able to fix them but was upset with the lack of QC.
On the flip side, I got a couple that were outstanding. I had an old Baron Sword from a few years back that had a very flexible blade (did not affect the handling). I ordered another one when they were on sale and the blade is as stiff as a boy on prom night. Really good sword. Since the blades are made the old way, no two blades will be the same and some batches are better than others.
Guess you just roll the dice when their swords go on sale.

What if "Deal of the day" more closely resembled "Seconds from this week" ? given the number of faulty blades in this batch I'm leaning towards the idea that those who buy the "Deal" are getting sub standard blades.

Yea. They should really just have a "Dent and Scratch Close Out Sale" Instead their "Deal of the day/weekend" if what we're getting are second rate products. It's much less misleading and wont lead to MRL getting bad rep for bad QC and/or bad blades. Look at Cold Steel Sword Seconds deals...their great and you know the exact problems with the weapon

Should probably have a record of weapons from MRL that is good or bad just for future reference

Yeah - but some people love the swords they buy from MRL even if they are crappy models. Have seen people get real defensive when a sword they own as been identified as a stinker. Human nature I guess. Like some of our reviews on swords are not really as informative as they could be because of the experience level of some reviewers and sometimes the Fan Boy love of the maker or sword. The pictures in the reviews sometimes can tell more than the review itself.

I mean they're not a bad company, but they really need more QC. When I get a sword, even a sub 200-300 one from Hanwei or CS, I know that the blade will look nice and polished. Handling and other stuff all depends on the weapon itself, but at least the blade will not look like it was a second or been done by a drunk. In the Henry VII review, the blade looks really nice and polished, so I think this was a problem with QC or their weekend closeout sales are for weapons that have been used or is not "perfect"

You do mean Henry VIII right? I note in your earlier post as well you seem to drop one I. The ceremonial sword right? And what is going on with Swiger's identity crisis. I like this one (avatar that is)

Yea...missing an I there. Typing on my phone seems to not get any better. It's a good looking sword, I just really wished they put more time in making the blade looks good.

Those of us within a day drive of MRL can personally inspect anything we buy from them I like to think I've saved myself from a few purchases. I haven't found anything particularly bad, other than that I really dislike their Migration Era sword scabbard; it might have been an anomaly, but I haven't been able to handle others since they're always out whenever I visit. I have found pieces I would rather not own after personally handling them, though. Then there's that one "randoms" rack they have off to the one side has a falchion I'm sorely tempted to buy every time I go there (it's probably gone now, though...haven't been there in weeks).

I live about 1 & 1/2 hours away from MRL... so I've handled almost everything they have. I always make a point of showing up to their once a year sale... but its been going downhill the last couple years.

I really miss a couple of their discontinued sword though. That Rheinfelden was a beautiful side sword :/. If only they listen to customers and bring back a couple of their old models, even if for a limited time. Many of their side swords and rapier are really good
