Haha, guess you were right! Well, it all comes down to what they actuallyd eliver and I have high hopes for it. I just think personal customer service could be improved a bit (I mean, if I owned a sword making company and gave the customer a date of delivery which I could not make, I would contact the customer immediately and let him know if and why the waiting time has been extended). Updated status report: I have now been contacted by Mr Van Yang (who I've been corresponding with this whole time) who apologized for the late delivery and explained to me that it is due to them having and issue with a lot of failed sanmai constructed jians lately (something that is not reassuring in the least). He assured me however that the problem has been sorted out and that my Jian should be completed withing ten days. We'll see what happens then:)

Sanmai forging is not an eassy process, every smith has unsuccessful tries, and there is a lot of trash in production. So if they talk about such things and don't send any 2nd quality product, it is a good sign in my view. Think positive!

True, I'm very happy about the fact that they don't send me a failed sword. However, you have to admit that "we've been making a lot of failing sanmai swords lately" doesn't sound very good to someone with a sanmai sword on order i trust that they know what they're doing though, and i have high hopes for the finished product just can't help being nervous you know...

Been 13 days now, haven't heard from them yet... I'm assuming more delays. I'm not in a hurry, I'd rather wait and receive a properly good product than get it now and receive something that is less good than it could have been... I would however like more status reports. If they tell me to wait ten days, I would at least like them to contact me on the tenth day to let me know how things are progressing... Is this asking too much? Am I being unreasonable?

I asked for progress pics as well but was told this was something they could not provide. Pics would be taken and sent to me upon completion of the sword... I have to wonder, why is this something they cannot provide? If I ran a company producing custom swords and a paying customer asked me to take some pics in mid-production I would be happy to comply... I would also send regular status reports, just to let the customer know what's happening to his order. But apparently, this kind of service is not something that one should be able to expect from just any vendor...

It depends on how the forge/smith works. It could be that they have it partitioned out to several craftsmen and depending, given this is a chinese company, they may not have the ability to go to each separate person/dvision or such and get pics. The other alternative is that it's done in one go. I.E. your sword is started and then finished in one fell swoop, and thereby there isn't really a chance for anything but final pics.
There's honestly no need for progress pics, you getting pics of the final product will give you a good chance to evaluate it against your order specs. Be sure to ask for assembled and non assembled pictures, and multiples of each, and you should be just fine.

May be, I've no idea how they work. You've got a point.
True, I just thought it would be fun to be able to see the progress myself and to see that something is actually happening. Not necessary, just would be fun to have. Will do!

Yeah I hear you guys on those points. After dealing with another chinese company I had a sword made & delivered in under 2 weeks with pics, and with Sinosword I've got 0 replies to emails except its being worked on and it will take 30+ days. How come they take so long and provide 0 feedback to the customers and the other chinese forge is very communicative and always willing to try and accomodate if they can. Makes me mad some times but I just hope it turns out well.

I agree, personal contact could be improved by quite a bit. But well, all that matters is the final product. If by the end of it all they deliver a product that is far greater than any other in the same price range, then I will probably be happy that they did not waste time and effort by sending me useless emails and pics. But right now, I would like to know more about what is going on... I mean, if they tell me to "please wait any given number of days", then I'd expect them to get back to me when the time is up. I'm slightly dissappointed that they don't even contact me to let me know why things are taking longer than expected. I mean, just how long should I wait before I contact them and ask myself?

Sent them an email yesterday asking for a progress report plus, when the sword is completed, pictures of both assembled and dissassembled.received a reply today and Was told dissassembled pics cannot be arranged (Why the hell not!?), but they sent me a couple of pics of some of their bare blades so that I could see the tang structure for myself. Have attached the pictures below, looks good to me. Looks like a threaded full tang, so I should be able to dissassemble the sword myself for the review. However, they told me they would take pics of my sword tommorrow! Don't know if that means it's finished, but it sure sounds like it. But then, why wasn't I notified of this before? Haha, oh well... I'm having high hopes for those pictures tomorrow! Attachments:

hi just wantd to ask how much did it cost? i've been playing with my brother's flexible tai chi jian and i would be interested in having one for myself one day. those things are so light i love them.
pm me if you're not confortable to tell it here.

Errr, that's because they're about 1/3 the weight of a real jian. Of course they're light. If you ordered a real blade, they wouldn't be nearly as light as the flexible ones.

Hi! No worries, I think I've already mentioned the price in this thread anyhow. The price was just under $300, and that's for a fully custom blade with my choice of steel, dimensions, fittings etc. I still haven't gotten the sword, So I can't pass judgement on the quality etc. But I'm certain it will be well worth the money. Just the fact that it's a full custom makes it a lot of sword for the money. I'll be back with a full review once I get it

i think i've seen somewhere on the sinosword website a jian with hand engraved fittings, is it an option you can take also when ordering a custom chinese sword? (jian, dao, etc...)
